Overview
Games are now one of the most influential forms of entertainment and interactive media worldwide. Used across a diverse range of industries, games combine art, design and technology to create immersive experiences that captivate players.
In this major, you’ll explore game design and art in depth, learning how to create assets, design levels and bring game worlds to life. You’ll delve into areas such as 3D modelling, character, environment and prop design, digital sculpting, animation and cinematic storytelling. You’ll also examine the game production pipeline in detail, preparing you to contribute to every stage of development – from concept to finished product.
Throughout the course you’ll have access to cutting-edge facilities including digital labs equipped with high-end computers, virtual reality headsets and the latest game development software packages. These labs provide the production environment you need to refine your skills in 3D modelling, animation, level design and visual effects using industry software such as Maya, ZBrush, Unreal Engine and Unity.
In your final year, you’ll have the opportunity to apply your skills in a practical setting. You could find yourself collaborating with researchers or industry members on real-world challenges or completing internships with local and international studios and production companies, helping you build a professional network and practical portfolio before you graduate.
This major is offered as part of the Bachelor of Digital Creative Industries. You can enhance your studies with interdisciplinary electives and specialisations or combine this major with Animation, Visual Effects and Virtual Production or Immersive User Experience Design.
