Major overview
This course is one of 16 majors offered in the Bachelor of Science.
Data scientists collate and analyse large volumes of data. From predicting weather patterns for crop harvesting to improving patient diagnoses, the role of data science in decision-making is increasingly valued across business and government.
Data science is a multidisciplinary field that combines studies in computing, emerging internet technologies, media and statistics.
To begin with, you'll gain a foundation in programming and statistics, before progressing to studies in data mining, data security and computer simulation.
Throughout the course, you’ll build your ability to extract, analyse and visualise large volumes of data. Importantly, you'll also learn how to communicate your research outcomes to stakeholders.
This course has been designed in consultation with Curtin's industry partners, to ensure that you graduate with the expertise to work in diverse industries where data science is key to innovation.
Advanced Science (Honours)
Data Science is also available as an Advanced Science (Honours) major. This advanced courses focuses on project-based learning, leadership and entrepreneurship, and includes a research project in honours year (fourth year).
