What is Engagement with Professional Practice?
Engagement with Professional Practice (EPP) is your opportunity to gain real-world experience and develop professional competencies alongside your academic studies. It’s a graduation requirement, but more importantly, it’s how you prepare yourself for your career as a professional engineer or engineering technologist.
Why EPP Matters
Engineers Australia requires all accredited engineering programs to include engagement with professional practice. EPP is about ensuring you’re ready to work as a professional engineer or engineering technologist, understanding workplace culture, applying ethics in real situations, and building your professional network.

What do I need to do?
To graduate from your course at Curtin University, you will be required to accumulate a number of hours of EPP experience based on which course you’re enrolled in:
- Bachelor of Engineering (Hons) students must accumulate 450 hours of experience (incl. at least 18 weighted PRES hours).
- Bachelor of Technology (Computer Systems and Networking) students must accumulate 300 hours of experience (incl. at least 12 weighted PRES hours).
- Master of Professional Engineering students must accumulate 450 hours of experience (incl. at least 18 weighted PRES hours).
All students graduating after 2026 will need to complete an ePortfolio on LabArchives.
Students enrolled in any of the above courses need to read and understand the requirements involved in Engagement with Professional Practice.
