Agriculture and environment

Finding ways to address environmental challenges, conserve biodiversity and secure the future of sustainable, economical and ethical food production.

Our research is focused on understanding, protecting and enhancing the systems that enable life on Earth.

Our research is also playing a leading role in mine site restoration, developing practical ways to preserve the fragile ecosystems that sustain Australia’s diverse flora and fauna.

Professor Morten Allentoft on the power of environmental and ancient DNA

Professor Morten Allentoft and his team are using environmental DNA (eDNA) to understand present-day biodiversity, and DNA extracted from ancient samples to understand past biodiversity. By joining the genomic dots, they can understand the fundamental mechanisms of evolution.
