Curtin University is committed to supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander researchers to lead meaningful change through research, innovation and community impact.

The Curtin Graduate Research School warmly encourages Indigenous Australians who are passionate about creating positive change for their communities and beyond to apply for our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Research Scholarship Program.

Whether you are a current Curtin student, considering postgraduate research for the first time, or applying from another institution, we invite you to connect with us for a yarn about your research interests, eligibility and how we can support your research journey at Curtin.

The Curtin Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Research Scholarship package includes:

  • A generous living allowance scholarship for up to 3.5 years full-time equivalent
  • A 100% tuition fee offset scholarship for up to 4 years
  • Access to additional research student grants and support funding
  • Guidance and support throughout your higher degree research journey

The scholarship package is valued at approximately $70,000 per year.

How to Apply

1. Connect with a Supervisor

If this opportunity interests you, we encourage you to contact a potential Registered Supervisor at Curtin to discuss your research interests or project ideas.

2. Submit an Expression of Interest

Your Expression of Interest (EOI) should include:

  • Your current CV
  • Academic transcripts
  • A brief summary of your research skills, interests and experience

3. Invitation to Apply

If a supervisor is available and aligned with your research area, they may invite you to formally apply.

4. Submit Your Admission Application

Once invited, you will recieve an Invitaion to Apply PDF and you can begin your application for admission into a Higher Degree by Research course at Curtin.

5. Scholarship Consideration

Successful applicants who receive a Curtin admission offer can then request scholarship consideration by contacting the Graduate Research School at ROC.GRS@Curtin.edu.au.

Applicants may also be invited to an informal meeting to have a yarn about their research goals and discuss what support may help them succeed throughout their research journey.
