The outstanding talents of Curtin University of Technology’s fashion students and graduates will be showcased at the 2009 Perth Fashion Festival that starts this week.

Curtin School of Design and Art Fashion and Textile Design Course Coordinator, Anne Farren, said the University would have a very strong presence at the festival and was involved in four high- profile events.

“The designs of 10 Curtin students will be featured in the inaugural Student Runway on 6 September,” she said.

“The ‘Cabinet of Curiosities’, a strange and beautiful collection of handcrafted fashion objects, textiles and body pieces by Curtin third-year students Kiara Thomson and Ellie Meyer will be on show in William Street shop fronts.”

Six talented graduates — Lizzie Delfs, Lauren Boyle, Elisha Quintal, Amy Clarke, Amanda Murphy, Rasha Karim and Selina Ding — will be exhibiting at Prelude II, supported by Curtin’s Office of Alumni Relations.

The latest in garment technology will be presented at ‘a touch of wool II’.

“Since 2004, Curtin and the Department of Agriculture and Food WA have been working on joint research projects which focus on merging science and design to improve clothing comfort,” Ms Farren said.

‘a touch of wool II’ will display work by eight emerging WA designers — all Curtin graduates — who are being supported to create wool collections using new technology developed in WA.

Curtin graduates involved in the project are fashion designers Amy Clarke, Amanda Murphy, Sooyung Yang, Jessica Amato, Lauren Boyle, Danielle Andree, Alexi Alcroft, Madeleine Tucker plus photographer and graphic designer, Otilee Lamb.

‘a touch of wool II’ is also proudly supported by Curtin’s Office of Alumni Relations.
