Join Team 4788 to design, build, and compete with a large-scale robot. Starting with Pre-season Design Program, students can progress to the Build Season and have the opportunity to compete in state and national robotics competitions.

About the program
A week-long residential engineering experience for First Nations students, established and funded by Engineering Aid Australia. Explore engineering pathways through hands-on activities, industry connections and cultural engagement while staying at Curtin University. Students join a national IAES community and qualify for ongoing education scholarships.

IAES Residential Camp 2026
- Dates: 12 to 18 July 2026 (six-day residential camp)
- Who: Indigenous students in years 9 to 12 interested in STEM
- Location: Perth
- Cost: free (all travel, meals, and accommodation provided)
- Scholarship eligibility: eligible for Engineers Aid Australia Continuing School Scholarship (supporting educational expenses in years 10 to 12) and future tertiary scholarships.

STEM for schools
About the program
FIRST LEGO League, part of the international For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology (FIRST®) movement, is an exciting robotics competition where students ages 9-16 design, build, and program LEGO® robots while developing their research and problem-solving skills. Led by Curtin University, the WA program currently engages over 15,000 participants across multiple competitions.
Getting started
If you’re interested in starting a team, you’ll need:
- A dedicated adult coach
- LEGO SPIKE Prime or Mindstorm EV3
- A space for your team to meet and work on the project
- Registration fee (from AUD$600) – includes an FLL competition kit and entry into one WA tournament.
Register your team through FIRST Australia.
Program timeline

Inspire STEM Education offers schools the opportunity to use a desktop-sized research-grade Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM), allowing students to explore otherwise hidden details in the world around them.
About the program
The SEM will be set up in your classroom for one or two weeks, and the team will train school staff in preparation of samples and the operation of the instrument. The aim is that staff are confident to use it with students, who will quickly come up with ideas about samples to look at very close: dead bugs, split ends of hair, stomata on leaves, pollen, sand, minerals, fabric, crystals, computer chips, fish scales, snake skin, micrometeorites and more!
Using an SEM in the classroom can be easily linked to both curricula for all ages and real-world applications. Applications of Scanning Electron Microscopy include research in geosciences, biology, medicine, aerospace engineering, cosmetics, archaeology, forensics, agriculture, and materials characterisation.

Astrofest is an award-winning celebration of astronomy and Western Australian science. With telescope observing throughout the evening, guest speakers, space domes, science shows, exhibitor stalls, hands-on activities, astrophotography competition and giveaways for the whole family.
National Science Week features more than 1,000 events around Australia delivered by universities, schools, research institutions, libraries, museums and science centres.
