Chris Mewburn, Senior Lecturer and Course Coordinator for Architecture in the School of Design and the Built Environment, shares the Video Reflection and Interview assessment he designed with Associate Professor Parisa Izadpanahi for students undertaking a ten-week internship in South Korea. Rather than the traditional end-of-placement report or presentation, students produce an individual, edited video that captures the full arc of their experience – recording footage throughout the trip, reflecting to camera, and interviewing a team leader from their host company before submitting to Blackboard alongside a LinkedIn reflection. As a Lane 1 secure assessment grounded in a supervised international placement, the approach mirrors authentic professional practice and gives students a richer way to demonstrate sustained engagement, professional learning and genuine personal growth.
