    What you'll learn

    • develop and transfer generic academic literacy and mediation skills in reading, writing, listening and speaking to their own discipline
    • analyse and evaluate own and other's ideas in order to develop an academic voice in written and spoken English
    • develop English language proficiency applying knowledge of grammatical structures, vocabulary and phonology in order to write and speak, accurate, meaningful and comprehensible English
    • develop knowledge of and apply academic language and study skills to suit the conventions of a variety of local disciplines
    • develop and reflect on the learning process to develop autonomous learning strategies and life-long skills
    • show an awareness of current global issues and how they impact on local cultures
    • recognise the importance of various cultural and linguistic perspectives including those of Indigenous Australians
    • apply mediation skills to show comprehension of reading and listening sources to support writing and speaking
    • develop English language proficiency in listening and reading in order to comprehend a variety of complex, academic listening and reading sources
