Multiple telephone scams are continuing to target Chinese students in Australia. The Australian Federal Police (AFP) has issued an advisory and the Australian media has published an article on a separate telephone scam here.

Support for students

If you receive an unsolicited phone call in Mandarin, hang up the phone immediately and contact Curtin Connect or Guild Student Assist for support.

Tips for students

  1. Don’t answer phone calls from unknown and private caller IDs. If it’s important, the caller will leave a message and you can return it later.
  2. Don’t provide or disclose any personal information to unsolicited calls, even if they appear to come from a Government organisation.
  3. Take note of any details (websites and numbers) that has been provided and double check this to make sure it’s credible.

If you are concerned that your identity has been compromised, contact the national identity and cyber support service (IDCARE) here.
