It’s important to take some time out for yourself this tuition-free week, so we’ve collated a list of activities and events you can indulge in during the break. Whether you’re seeking cultural exploration, outdoor adventures, or simply a relaxing day out, there are many options that can be done on a student’s budget.

ARTS AND CULTURE

Cultural Immersion
Immerse yourself in arts, culture and history by visiting the Perth Cultural Centre, home to esteemed institutions like the Western Australian Museum (WAM), the State Library of Western Australia, and the Art Gallery of Western Australia (AGWA). The best part? You can explore a range of captivating exhibitions and artistic marvels for free!

Catch a Movie
At Telethon Community Cinemas, treat yourself to a cinematic experience under the stars. With an impressive line-up of family-friendly films at multiple locations across Perth, it’s the perfect way to unwind during the break and to split up study days. The sessions are even budget-friendly! Otherwise, an alternative is catching a cult classic at Planet Royale in Northbridge, which shows for free every Sunday.

NATURE

Sunset Over the Indian Ocean
With WA being the only state where you get to experience sunset over the ocean, don’t take it for granted. Head to your favourite west-facing beach and bask in the serenity whilst waiting for the sun to dip below the horizon at one of Perth’s best beaches

Kings Park
Test your fitness while marvelling at panoramic views of Perth from the DNA Tower in Kings Park. Climb to the highest viewing platform for stunning vistas stretching all the way to the Indian Ocean. End the day with a packed picnic and watch the stunning views from Mount Eliza at the top of Kings Park. Be sure to stroll the gardens and cross the Lotterywest Federation Walkway treetop bridge.

Outdoor Activities
From tennis at Leederville Tennis Club to yoga sessions, there are some cheap outdoor activities to exercise both body and mind in Perth. Take a leisurely stroll around Lake Monger or indulge in a sunrise swim with the Cold Nips community for a refreshing start to your day. You can even drop by Hyde Park for a pay-what-you-feel yoga class – They run at 9:00 am every Saturday from October to May, with extra night classes during summer.

WHAT’S ON IN KALGOORLIE

Museum of the Goldfields Exhibition
Explore the photography exhibition showcasing the diverse beauty of the Houtman Abrolhos islands at the Museum of the Goldfields.

Trivia Nights
Gather your friends together, and put your knowledge to the test at Quiz Night at Miners Rest or Trivia at the Tower for a fun-filled evening of competition during the break.

Mount Charlotte Reservoir Sunset Walk
Take a scenic sunset walk to Mount Charlotte Reservoir and Lookout, offering panoramic views of the picturesque landscape. Take a snap at sunset, or bring up dessert to snack on whilst you watch the stars.

HEADING TO CAMPUS ANYWAY?

Check out a new Study Spot
If you are heading to campus anyway this week, refresh your study environment by exploring new study spots. Swap the library for outdoor spaces and enjoy the weather, or venture to the City of Perth Library’s Youth/Student area for a fresh and inspiring study environment.

Food Truck Markets |
Looking to shake up your dinner routine after hitting the books on campus? Head to South Perth strEATS, a food truck market on the foreshore just a short drive from Bentley campus. Open Thursday to Sunday, 5:00 pm to 8:30 pm, this market offers a variety of cuisines and a vibrant summer atmosphere, perfect for a relaxing picnic with a view of the CBD skyline. Many of the food trucks you love from campus also vend here, alongside live music. Plus, it’s dog-friendly!

As tuition-free week beckons, seize the opportunity to explore, unwind, and create memories amidst the experiences that WA has to offer. Whether you’re indulging in cultural pursuits, embracing nature, or simply enjoying the break activities, be sure to split up your study days with some fun and excitement.
