Before Chelsea began her journey at Curtin, she worked as a trainee in the minerals and resources sector, which introduced her to a new area to pursue professionally. She always knew she wanted to pursue further education, and this led her to the Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA), specialising in Project Management, Workforce Management, and Corporate Governance.
Already undertaking a full-time traineeship, Chelsea chose to study online, finding that this option helped her balance work and study effectively.
“I needed a study option that could work around my career rather than against it.”
Studying online has helped Chelsea understand the value of connecting course content with real-world experiences and career goals. She has also had the opportunity to develop her communication, teamwork, and leadership skills, as well as build friendships and collaborate with like-minded students.
One of the biggest lessons Chelsea has learnt during her time at uni is the importance of staying organised and motivated.
“Without the routine of a physical classroom, it’s easy to fall behind, so I found it helpful to break my workload into weekly goals and stay ahead wherever possible.”
Chelsea also applied to the High Achievers Program for professional development, which was a change of pace for her for two days coming to uni in-person.
“It was really meaningful to be in person and connect with other students.”
Chelsea advises other online students to make the most out of the flexibility offered by an online degree. She also highlights the importance of connecting with tutors.
“Building those relationships can enrich your learning, boost your confidence, and help you get more out of every unit. Don’t be afraid to ask questions, seek support, and engage with the online community. With the right mindset and structure, you can successfully balance your studies with work, family, and personal ambitions. No risk, no story!”
