Perth is an amazing place to study and live and there are so many activities you can enjoy that are budget friendly! To help you enjoy some of the fantastic things that this city has to offer without breaking the bank, we’ve put together a list of five fun things that you can do in Perth for free!

Explore Kings Park

Kings Park and Botanic Garden is Perth’s most popular tourist destination for a good reason. It showcases an array of beautiful Western Australian flora and a stunning view of Perth City and the Swan River. Take a free guided walking tour or just grab some friends and wander around – we also recommend packing a picnic!

Hit the beach!

Perth boasts some of the best beaches in Australia – think soft sand and clean, sparkling blue water. What’s best about Perth beaches is that compared to those in busier parts of Australia, they’re very relaxed, meaning you won’t have to fight for the perfect spot on the shore. Everyone has their own personal favourite but we recommend Cottesloe, Scarborough and City Beach.

Stroll through the Fremantle Markets

Fremantle Markets is treasured by locals and tourists alike. Housed in a heritage-listed building, it is the perfect combination of hip and historical. Stalls offer a colourful selection of local produce, fashion, homewares, art and more. You can usually catch a busker performing outside as well.

Catch some free entertainment at Northbridge Piazza

Northbridge Piazza is a communal outdoor space located in the heart of Northbridge, which offers a range of free activities to the public – such as movies, live music and art exhibitions. There are also free fitness classes available in the mornings.

Take a day trip

A great way to take a break from your studies is to gather up some friends and go on a day trip somewhere outside of the city. The Swan Valley is a good option for students on a budget, as there are usually lots of free samples and tastings of local wine, cheese, chocolate and ice cream on offer.
