Abhilash Student Profile

Meet Abhilash, a first-year medicine student, who embarked on his academic journey with a clear goal in mind – to become a doctor and make a positive impact on the community. His unwavering commitment to medicine is driven by a deep-seated desire to give back and support individuals during their most vulnerable moments, “It’s been inspirational to see how doctors give back to the community and help people who are sick in the most vulnerable and difficult times”.

Transitioning seamlessly from year 12 to medical school, Abhilash exhibits an unwavering commitment to effecting positive change in the lives of others. Abhilash derives immense satisfaction from delving into the intricacies of the human body. His academic pursuits transcend the theoretical, as he views the acquisition of knowledge to heal and uplift individuals in their times of greatest need.

Looking towards the future, Abhilash aspires to specialise in medicine, directing his focus towards addressing healthcare disparities in rural areas, “When I came into university, I realised that there was a big discrepancy with access to rural health, and so I wanted to be able to give back to that specific field in the future”. His overarching objective is to ensure equitable access to high-quality medical care for all, regardless of geographical location.

Navigating the demanding terrain of medical school and life’s responsibilities is a continuous challenge for Abhilash. Yet, he approaches this task with a methodical strategy, breaking down complex endeavours into manageable goals, and allowing for sustained focus and achievement.

Beyond his academics, Abhilash actively contributes as a partner at the Social Impact Hub. Collaborating with peers and faculty, he lends his insights to shape the hub into a valuable resource for fostering positive community change, “Having a profound social impact is important to me because I want to help others. I’m super passionate about helping others and to make positive change in the community”.

Calling upon fellow students to partake in this journey, Abhilash views the Social Impact Hub as an intersection of opportunities, seamlessly integrating programs such as Curtin Leaders and Curtin Volunteers. It stands as a space where individuals can refine their skills, access valuable resources, and actively contribute to transformative community projects.

In Abhilash’s perspective, the Social Impact Hub stands as the nucleus of service and leadership at Curtin University. It is a collaborative arena where aspirations for change are translated into reality. From a vision to actively shaping a hub for positive impact, Abhilash’s journey serves as an inspiration within our academic community.
