From 2027, Canvas will become Curtin’s learning management system, replacing Blackboard across Curtin’s Australian and global campuses.

The move to Canvas will provide an improved and consistent user experience for both students and staff.

What this means for you

Canvas will be where you access learning materials, unit information, assessment details, announcements, and other key study tools. While many features will feel familiar to your Blackboard experience, some things will look different or use new names.

Most students will begin using Canvas from January 2027 for units that commence in 2027. Until then, you will continue using Blackboard for your studies.

Students who are impacted by the early transition to Canvas will be contacted by email and will predominantly be studying units that begin in 2026 and finish in 2027.

Blackboard will convert to read-only on 1 January 2027. You will be able to access material until 31 December 2027. You’ll continue to access Blackboard via OASIS and you will be able to select and download material and submitted work as normal. Please plan ahead and start to save any material that you wish to keep.
