Professor Vanessa Chang

Professor Vanessa Chang commenced as Pro Vice-Chancellor of the Faculty of Business and Law in September 2022 following a nine month period in the role as Interim PVC. From May 2019 to December 2021, Vanessa was the Deputy Pro Vice-Chancellor.

Professor Chang joined Curtin in 1989 as a Tutor in the School of Information Systems. Her previous leadership roles in the University include Director of Learning Innovations where she led innovation and project teams to develop Massive Open Online Courses as well as leading transformational IT projects at Curtin, Dean of Learning and Teaching, and Head of School of Information Systems.

Professor Chang is a Fellow of the Australian Computer Society and an experienced leader in higher education. Her information systems research are focused in leadership, governance, and the use of data and systems in organisations. As an educator, she conducts research in learning pedagogies, in immersive and online learning.

Professor Panos Piperopoulos

Professor Panos Piperopoulos has an esteemed background from his work as Professor of Strategic Management at La Trobe Business School, and Associate Professor in Management (Innovation & Entrepreneurship) at the Graduate School of Business and Law at RMIT University. Prior to relocating to Australia, Panos held positions as an Associate Professor in International Business at the University of Liverpool Management School, as an Associate Professor in Global Innovation Management at the Leeds University Business School, and in other positions across Europe and Asia.

Panos’s leadership experience in academia, includes Deputy Chair of the Academic Board, Associate Dean of Academic Partnerships, Discipline Lead, and Director of Research and PhD/HDR Studies. He has led numerous international accreditations (EFMD/EPAS, AACSB, CIM, IoE) and ranking exercises (QS, Financial Times, CEO Magazine).

Panos is an Associate Editor for the Journal of Small Business Management and has contributed to competitive and industry grants totalling around AUD$2 million. His research has been published in leading journals including Research Policy, Journal of World Business and Global Strategy Journal.

Professor Julia Balogun

Professor Julia Balogun is Dean of the Management School at the University of Liverpool. Prior to taking up her role at ULMS in 2015, she was Associate Dean Research and Professor of Strategic Management at the University of Bath School of Management. Previously, she was Associate Dean Postgraduate and Director of the Graduate Management School at Lancaster University Management School, where she also held the Professor Sir Roland Smith Chair in Strategic Management and was Director of the Centre for Strategic Management. Following a career as a consultant, she began her academic career at Cranfield as an ESRC Teaching Fellow in 1992, where she obtained her PhD. She subsequently spent time at Bayes Business School and was promoted to a personal Chair in Strategic Management at Bayes in 2005. As Professor of Strategic Management, Professor Balogun is best known for her research on processes of strategy development and strategic change. She has a particular interest in how large corporations can be transformed to both retain and regain competitive advantage, focusing on the nature of the practices, actions and activities of senior executives engaged in corporate renewal, organisational transformation and radical restructuring. Building on this research, she is also a member of the growing international Strategy-as-Practice research field.

Professor Balogun utilises her prior experience as a consultant to work collaboratively with organisations and senior executives on issues of strategic change, enabling her research to advance practitioner as well as theoretical knowledge about strategy and strategic change. Her research has been published in leading international journals, including the Academy of Management Journal, Organization Science, Journal of International Business Studies, Journal of Management Studies and Organization Studies. She also serves on the editorial boards of Organization Science, Journal of Management Studies and Organization Studies, and has previously served on the editorial board of the Academy of Management Journal and as a co-editor of the British Journal of Management.

Professor Alan Au

Professor AU Kai Ming Alan obtained his Master of Business Administration from Massey University as well as Master of Management Studies and Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Waikato. He is a Fellow of the Chartered Governance Institute (CGI) in the United Kingdom and The Hong Kong Chartered Governance Institute (HKCGI).

Professor AU started his academic career in New Zealand and had served in various academic positions in Hong Kong and New Zealand. In 1995, Professor AU joined HKMU, he was appointed as Associate Dean (B&A) in 2010.

With more than 25 years of experience at HKMU, Professor AU has emerged as a renowned academic in the business field. He contributed to the development of new full-time face-to-face programmes and the initiation of a new direction for the development and teaching of distance learning courses. Professor Au has brought about the production of a number of TV programmes on Corporate Governance, Management and Marketing for the University’s “Knowledge For All” programme telecasted on major public broadcasting channels in Hong Kong.

Professor AU has published widely in international refereed journals, covering areas such as business ethics, global management and marketing. He was a Regional Editor and Guest Editor for Cross Cultural Management Journal. He also published articles extensively in topics relating to branding, consumer behaviour, management and marketing communications (in Chinese) in major local newspapers and business magazines.

Professor Kieran Fernades

Professor Kieran Jude Fernandes is Executive Dean of Durham University Business School, a globally ranked institution recognised for excellence in research, education, and societal impact. An internationally respected scholar in operations and innovation management, he is a Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences and has held senior leadership roles at Durham including Associate Pro Vice-Chancellor and Head of Department. His research on modelling complex systems and digital supply chains, funded by organisations such as ESRC, EPSRC, NASA, and the Royal Academy of Engineering, has shaped practice across sectors from pharmaceuticals to digital technologies and is widely published in leading journals. Professor Fernandes has served as Vice-Chair of the UK National Commission for UNESCO, Trustee of the BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art, and Director of the Northern Powerhouse Innovation Observatory, and has advised the UK Government, international organisations, and industry. His awards include NASA’s Space Shuttle Main Engine Continuous Improvement Award and the Rutherford Excellence in Engineering Award.

Dr Prattana Punnakitikashem

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Prattana Punnakitikashem is the Dean of the College of Management, Mahidol University (CMMU), Thailand, leading one of the country’s premier graduate business schools toward global recognition and real-world impact. Under her leadership, CMMU continues to strengthen its international standing with AACSB, AMBA, and BGA accreditations, while advancing lifelong learning, industry collaboration, and global partnerships.

Prattana is an Associate Professor specializing in strategic decision-making, operations management, and healthcare and wellness management. Her work bridges academia and practice, supported by internationally published research in healthcare systems, sustainability, and organizational performance.

She brings both academic and industry experience, including prior leadership in the spa and wellness industry. At Mahidol University, she has held several senior leadership roles, including Deputy Dean for Academic Affairs & Support, Deputy Dean for Administration, and Program Chair of the Healthcare and Wellness Management program, and has received multiple awards for teaching, research, and leadership excellence.

She is committed to developing future leaders and driving impact across academia, industry, and society through innovation and responsible management.

Professor Maria de Fátima Salgueiro

Maria de Fátima Salgueiro is a Full Professor at the Department of Quantitative Methods for Management and Economics of the Business School of Iscte – University Institute of Lisbon. Fátima holds a MSc in Management (1994) from Iscte, Portugal, and a PhD in Social Statistics (2003) from the University of Southampton, United Kingdom. Her research interests include Structural Equation Models, Latent Growth Curve Models and Graphical Modelling, as far as theoretical contributions and applications in Business Research areas are concerned. In collaboration with international co-authors, Fátima has published in Journals such as Psychometrika, Biometrika, Multivariate Behavioral Research and Journal of Multivariate Analysis. Data analysis applications, conducted with various co-authors, have been published in journals such as British Journal of Health Psychology, Business Horizons, Ecological Indicators, International Journal of Sustainable Development and World Ecology, Journal of Retailing and Consumer Services, Leisure Studies, Journal of Marketing Communications, International Journal of Consumer Studies and International Journal of Retail and Distribution. Fátima has supervised 15 concluded Master Dissertations and 17 concluded PhD Theses, some of these concerning theoretical contributions to statistics and data analysis, others including statistical applications to real problems of students from MSc and PhD Programs of the Iscte Business School. Fátima research results were presented in 48 national and 75 international Conferences. Examples of presentations at the international level include the International Meeting of the Psychometric Society and the International Workshop on Statistical Modelling. Since 2027 Fátima has been the Director of the Business Research Unit of Iscte, a research centre accredited by the Portuguese National Foundation (FCT) and graded as Excellent in the last evaluation. Fátima is member of the Directive Board of the Iscte Knowledge and Innovation, an Association created in 2020 to foster multidisciplinary research, projects and knowledge transfer to Society. Fátima also is member of the Strategic Board of the Iscte SocioDigital for Public Policy, a laboratory accredited by FCT, since its creation in 2021. In recent years, she has been engaged in the governance of the Portuguese Association of Classification and Data Analysis (CLAD): from 2020 to 2023 as the elected President of the Fiscal Council and, since 2023, as the elected President of the General Assembly.

Professor Ye Xin

Ye Xin, Professor and Dean of the School of Economics and Management. He has presided over and participated in more than 10 scientific research projects of various types, including National Natural Science Foundation of China, National Key R&D Program, and National Science and Technology Support Program. He has published 2 monographs and textbooks. He has published more than 60 academic papers in journals such as Knowledge-Based Systems, Decision Support Systems, Information Sciences, Data & Knowledge Engineering, Neural Processing Letters, Electronic Commerce Research and Applications, Journal of Systems Engineering, Journal of Systems and Management (formerly known as Systems Engineering – Theory, Method and Application), Operations Research and Management, as well as in related high-level international conferences. He has won nearly 10 awards at the provincial, ministerial and municipal levels.
