Civil engineering

Civil and construction engineering involves the application of scientific and technological principles to the design and construction of facilities for the community, such as railways, harbours, roads, bridges, water supply and wastewater treatment, dams, mining construction, power projects and buildings.

Mechanical engineering

Mechanical engineering involves harnessing the energy and forces that exist in nature, providing for the needs of society. This means it covers a range of different machines, from micro-mechanical devices to massive power-generating turbines. An example of the accomplishment of mechanical engineering is the flight and performance of modern aircraft.

Mechatronic engineering

Mechatronic engineers work with advanced technologies across a range of industry sectors, including resources, agriculture, aerospace and biotechnology. With strengths including mechanical design, advanced sensors, control systems, AI, machine learning, automation and robotics, they’re well positioned for the future workforce.

CME research

CME delivers high-quality research that contributes to innovation, sustainability and industry impact supported by dedicated research groups and centres. Researchers use the School’s extensive lab facilities to investigate the world we’ve built, uncover ways to improve existing technologies, and find solutions to some of society’s most pressing problems.
