Elite Athlete Program
At Curtin, we help you combine your passion for sports with academic success through our Elite Athlete Program.
Curtin is dedicated to supporting students in dual pursuits of academia and performance sport. The Elite Athlete Program provides support to Curtin students who are competing at an elite level of their chosen sport while completing tertiary studies at Curtin.
Annually, the Elite Athlete Program assists over 150 students balance sport and study commitments.

Should I apply?
Applications for 2026 will remain open until November 2026.
Students should only apply once selection for the team has occurred, as applications must provide a current Letter of Support from the relevant sport liaison annually.
Applications containing 2025 team selection advice will be ineligible.

2026 Curtin athlete grant
The Curtin Athlete Grant (Scholarship) has been developed to support elite athletes in attaining excellence in their chosen sport whilst maintaining academic achievement. Acknowledging not all sport is the same, in 2026 there will be two rounds of grants available.
Applications for the second round of the grant close Wednesday 5 August 2026. You don’t need to be accepted on the Elite Athlete Program before applying to the Curtin Athlete Grant.

To be eligible for the program, you must be a player, coach or official in sport in:
An international competition or in a national squad
A National or State Sporting Institute or academy of sport
A national competition
No. You must apply for the program every year.
Yes. You must provide a current letter of support or confirmation letter from your State or National Sporting Organisation.
This must include your selection, level of competition and dates of competition or program for the application year.
Enrolled Curtin students wishing to be considered for eligibility for the Curtin Elite Athlete Program must complete the following steps:

Curtin Sport and Recreation staff provide support when you request flexible study, assessment and examination arrangements around your sporting commitments.
Sport and Recreation staff work with academic staff to better understand your sporting commitments and attempt to balance tertiary studies at the same time.
Once accepted onto the program, you have access to a free Curtin Fitness Centre membership for the year.
Yes
You can only apply after you have been officially selected for the current or upcoming season, as you need current supporting documentation from your sporting organisation.
Applications are open 11 months of the year, so you only need to apply once you meet the eligibility criteria for the year.
Students who start studies in the following year can apply from January.
The eligibility requirements of being enrolled and having supporting documents from sporting organisations must still be met.
EAP application tips
Read the eligibility requirements carefully; if you do not meet one or more of the requirements, your application cannot be considered.
If you are required to complete a written letter of support as part of your application, make sure you have a letter from your sporting organisation.
If you are uploading scanned documents as part of your application, make sure the scans are legible and complete.
