Curtin University of Technology is set to become the first Australian university to offer wine sensory evaluation courses at its Margaret River Education Campus.

This program, coordinated by Curtin wine production lecturer Simon Hanley, has been developed by the internationally renowned Wine and Spirit Education Trust Ltd and will begin in late February.

Three certificate courses will be available — Level 1 Foundation Certificate in Wines, Level 2 Intermediate Certificate in Wines and Spirits and Level 3 Advanced Certificate in Wines and Spirits.

“By providing these certificates, Curtin has emphasised its commitment to wine education in WA,” Mr Hanley said.

“This will allow the local wine industry to develop the best qualified workforce in Australia and continue to be world leaders in the production of fine wines.”

All teaching and certification will be provided by Curtin, with administrative support provided by the Margaret River Wine Industry Association.
