Leading US venture capitalist Bill Tai will be the keynote speaker at Univation, from 3 to 4 November at Perth’s Burswood Entertainment complex.

Mr Tai is part of the investment team at Charles River Ventures and a global leader in the field of venture investing. He has overseen numerous successful investments with particular focus in digital television, enabling technology, web-based services and wireless infrastructure sectors.

Univation is a landmark event where WA’s four major universities come together to showcase commercially relevant opportunities arising from research. The event is a great opportunity to promote collaboration between academia, industry and the investment community. The aim is to facilitate dialogue between these groups with the overall goal of unlocking the value in the significant public investment being made into research in WA.

Presentations of particular technology-based opportunities seeking industry and investment support will be made under the categories of Greentech, ICT, Life Sciences and Resources. The program includes a new battery technology, the latest in mining exploration technology, novel antibiotics and advanced laser technology.

WA Minister for Commerce; Science and Innovation, Bill Marmion, will open the event. Other speakers include Sam Walsh from Rio Tinto, a platinum sponsor of Univation while ABC Radio National Science Show presenter Robyn Williams will MC the program.

There will be a discussion on effective university commercial collaborations with a panel of experts from industry and the investment community. The program culminates in the WA Innovator of the Year Awards lunch on Thursday 4 November.

More details on the program are available at the Univation website.

Univation is a collaboration between Curtin University, Edith Cowan University, Murdoch University and the University of Western Australia.
