In a public lecture at Curtin University on 14 February, Former Prime Minister Kevin Rudd reflected on the official national apology he delivered to the Stolen Generation in 2008. He discussed the progress made over the last decade to close the gap and what can be done to complete the nation’s reconciliation journey.

He reinforced that the apology was essential for Australia’s First Peoples, but also for the nation as a whole, because the events and actions that led to the apology are all part of our nation’s story.

“If you’re going to harvest the good in our national narrative from our nation’s past, then let us have the guts, or at least the intellectual honesty, to equally harvest the bad”, he said.
