The Goldfields University Department of Rural Health’s inaugural Goldfields Winter Seminar brought together 75 attendees from across a diverse range of health, education, community services and regional development sectors. The GUDRH is incredibly proud of the breadth of expertise and perspectives represented in the room, creating a strong foundation for meaningful discussion about the future of the rural health and social care workforce in the Goldfields.
Keynote speakers, Professor Jenny May AM, National Rural Health Commissioner, and Professor Deb Jones, Director of the Broken Hill University Department of Rural Health and Rural Clinical School, provided valuable national and regional insights into rural workforce development, place-based education, community connection and the partnerships required to build and sustain a skilled local workforce.
The panel discussion was highly engaging, with local leaders sharing practical experiences, challenges and opportunities for strengthening workforce sustainability in the region. The conversation generated genuine enthusiasm, with panel members expressing a strong interest in continuing to work together beyond the seminar. This level of commitment to progressing the ideas discussed is a fantastic outcome for our UDRH, particularly as we continue to shape the future direction of our program.
The Winter Seminar not only sparked important conversations but also strengthened connections and momentum for ongoing collaboration across the Goldfields.
