Curtin graduate earns plum Hong Kong job

A Curtin accounting graduate has been appointed Chief Financial Officer of Hong Kong-based manufacturer Highway Holdings Ltd.

Alan Chan, 47, has succeeded Po Fong in the top accounting job at the company.

Mr Chan began his career as an accountant with Australian CPA firm Nelson Wheeler and later with PricewaterhouseCoopers.

He earned a Master of Arts degree in accounting from Curtin after taking a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Lancaster in the United Kingdom.

Mr Chan, a Hong Kong national, is fluent in Mandarin, Cantonese and English.

Most recently he served as chief financial officer for a joint venture in China with Laureate Education Group.

He previously served as vice president and chief financial officer for DeCoro, an Italian sofa manufacturer – supervising more than 30 accounting professionals.

Mr Chan’s experience includes serving as financial controller for San Miguel Shunde Brewery Co Ltd, a joint venture that manufactures and sells beer in China and other markets.

“Alan’s extensive background in finance and accounting, combined with his extensive knowledge and experience of operating in China, provides our organisation with a unique combination of qualities that will serve the company well …” said Highway Holdings CEO and President Roland Kohl.

Highway Holdings produces components for equipment manufacturers, and finished products including light fixtures, LED lights and radio chimes.
