40-year WAIT physio reunion

When alumna Kerry Brandis began planning a 40-year reunion for WAIT’s 1986 physiotherapy graduates, many of her former classmates had not seen one another in years. Life had taken them in different directions, but the milestone offered the perfect reason to reconnect.

Graduates travelled from interstate, Esperance and across Perth to gather in a cosy local venue, reminisce about their student days and catch up on where life had taken them. The celebrations continued over dinner with partners later that evening.

Inspired to reunite your own cohort? Start by forming a small planning committee of two or three people. Curtin’s alumni relations team can assist by providing advice and support to help bring your reunion to life. Contact alumni@curtin.edu.au to get started.

Should you be posting your kids online?

In a new article for The Conversation, Lauri Parr, Research Associate in Curtin’s School of Population Health, explores the lasting impact sharing photos can have on a child’s privacy, safety and digital identity. She outlines four practical questions parents and other trusted adults should consider before posting; particularly as AI creates new risks for how images may be used.

How parental loss affects children

How parental loss affects children

New Curtin research has found children who experience parental loss, including bereavement, parental separation or having a parent in custody, are twice as likely to develop a mental health disorder. Led by Professor Lauren Breen, the study highlights the need to identify affected children early and connect families with accessible, evidence-informed support. Read more about the findings.

Starting strong with preschool

Starting strong with preschool

A major Curtin study of more than 123,000 WA children has found preschool attendance is linked to stronger development and greater school readiness. Children who attended preschool performed better across every area measured, including social, emotional, physical, communication and learning skills. The findings highlight the importance of improving access to quality preschool, particularly in disadvantaged and remote communities.
