In a world defined by rapid change, actuarial science helps businesses and governments understand the risks, prepare for the future and make informed decisions.
This course is designed for curious and analytical thinkers who want to use their mathematical skills in the workplace and apply their insight to impactful projects and decision-making.
You’ll build advanced skills in probability, financial mathematics, data analytics and risk modelling. You’ll also learn to conduct research, ask meaningful questions, interpret complex evidence and communicate insights clearly.
Throughout the course, you’ll examine contemporary challenges such as climate uncertainty, longevity risk, financial resilience and the responsible use of data. You’ll think critically and creatively about how actuaries can help organisations respond to uncertainty and make responsible decisions.
You’ll graduate ready for opportunities in established areas such as financial services and government, as well as in emerging fields such as AI, sustainability and energy.

Professional accreditation and recognition
This course is accredited in Australia by the Actuaries Institute. Based on your performance and prior studies, you may earn up to eight exemptions towards your professional actuarial qualification from the Actuaries Institute.
Graduates are also eligible for membership of the Australian Mathematical Society.

Course structure
Year 1
Build foundational skills in actuarial science, statistics and finance. Your first-year study plan will support your transition into the course and may be adjusted based on your prior qualifications and any credit you receive for prior learning.
Year 2
Extend your knowledge in actuarial, statistical and financial modelling. You’ll apply quantitative methods to increasingly complex problems.
Year 3
Spend your final year completing advanced actuarial units and a research dissertation. You’ll also apply your knowledge to real-world problems and prepare for professional practice.
