About Luma Health

There are 51% of the population that are biologically female. Women constitute 38.4% of all full-time workers & 68.5% of part time workers in Australia. The experience of how hormones affect us varies from woman to woman. Hormone levels fluctuate during different stages of adulthood. Ranging from the menstrual cycle, birth control & fertility.

Understanding PCOS & endometriosis is integral to seeking support and accessing treatment. The menopause transition according to recent Australian research (2023) has shown that one in ten women reported bothersome symptoms that negatively impacted on work, study, exercise, and daily activities. The same research reports that 17% of midlife women (45-64 years) have taken leave or an extended break from work because of bothersome symptoms they attributed to menopause.

Here in Australia, women experience mental health conditions at higher rates than men, particularly for anxiety and mood disorders. Women have twice the risk of men in experiencing PTSD in their lifetime. Only 49% of women are seeking support. Women face unique challenges and stressors that can impact their mental health, making awareness raising workshops vital to empowering women to take action regarding their mental health.

Education needs to build resilience and understanding, considering one’s health and wellbeing and implement strategies to support optimum health. It is recommended that women understand what symptoms are associated with hormonal imbalances and mental health challenges and have an awareness of evidence-based options for treatment of symptoms.

Their aim is to increase awareness and knowledge of hormones and mental health throughout adulthood among women (and men). This assists in supporting courageous conversations and reduces the shame & stigma associated with hormonal issues and mental health that affect women in the workforce. Empowering women (and men) through education will address issues around where, how and when to seek support so that women can advocate for their own health, enabling then to continue working and enjoying life.
