Motherlode presents the evocative photographic works of seven artists from Curtin reimagining maternal themes in a contemporary context.
Inspired by the family album, iconography of the mother in religious art and fairy tale maternal archetypes, these intimate images incorporate the abject and abstraction to explore the profound maternal bond with the child while addressing modern motherhood’s challenges – societal expectations, identity tensions, work-life conflicts and the decision to mother.
Experience how these artists fuse mythical, sacred and raw elements with abstract forms to illuminate the complex realities of maternal connection today.
