and relationships for students and others with whom they engage, and ensures the physical, psychological, emotional, and spiritual wellbeing of the individual is not placed at risk.<\/li>\n<li>Examples:\n<ul>\n<li>Comply with academic and professional codes of conduct and professional standards, including those relating to informed consent, privacy, behaviour, pharmacy service quality and competency standards.<\/li>\n<li>Work with others effectively, co-operatively, and in a professional manner in diverse and changing academic and practical experience settings (classrooms, laboratories and professional settings).<\/li>\n<li>Practise within the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.psa.org.au\/practice-support-industry\/professional-practice-standards\/\" functions with precision.<\/li>\n<li>Accurate mathematical processing and reasoning are essential for safe and effective practice as a student pharmacist (ability to interpret and correctly apply numerical data, measurement, and numerical criteria).<\/li>\n<li>Examples:\n<ul>\n<li>Demonstrate competency in a range of pharmaceutical calculations, including stability and disposition of medicines.<\/li>\n<li>Accurately and efficiently calculate doses and quantities of ingredients for the preparation of pharmaceutical products.<\/li>\n<li>Correctly apply data, measurements, and Communication<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Sound verbal English communication with patients and university and clinical staff is required for effective learning and safe and effective practice.<\/li>\n<li>Communication is critical to developing respect, empathy, and trust. Some interactions may be limited to verbal communication because of physical limitations of the individual (e.g. injury, disease or congenital conditions). Demonstration of timely, accurate and effective delivery of instructions is critical to individual safety, treatment, and management.<\/li>\n<li>Examples:\n<ul>\n<li>Build conversational rapport with a patient to encourage their trust and cooperation in the healthcare consultation.<\/li>\n<li>Effectively communicate and confirm instructions in noisy environments.<\/li>\n<li>Question directions and decisions that are unclear.<\/li>\n<li>Provide timely and audible responses to classes and groups in classroom, laboratory, and workplace settings.<\/li>\n<li>Present information to an audience of health professionals.<\/li>\n<li>Proficiency in verbal English to allow for fluid, precise and comprehensible two-way discussions, at conversational speed, audible speaking volume, and appropriate tone of voice.<\/li>\n<li>Sensitivity to individual and\/or cultural differences.<\/li>\n<li>Ability to understand and respond to verbal communication accurately, appropriately and in a timely manner.<\/li>\n<li>Ability to provide clear instructions in the context of the situation.<\/li>\n<li>Timely, clear feedback and reporting.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>Non-verbal communication<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Ability to recognise, interpret and respond to non-verbal cues for effective communication, empathy and gaining trust and respect as a developing health professional.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ol>\n<li>The ability to observe, understand and respond appropriately to non-verbal cues assists with building rapport and gaining trust and respect in academic and professional relationships whilst being sensitive to individual and\/or cultural differences demonstrates respect and empathy, and helps develop trusting relationships.<\/li>\n<li>Examples:\n<ul>\n<li>Communicate effectively with people in distress and people with impaired communication skills.<\/li>\n<li>Communicate respectfully with people of accurately.<\/li>\n<li>Examples:\n<ul>\n<li>Observe auditory alarms, warnings and directions in university and workplace environments.<\/li>\n<li>Accurately record and interact with spoken instructions and information.<\/li>\n<li>Follow developing discussions with healthcare colleagues regarding patients.<\/li>\n<li>Observe nuances in patients\u2019 physiological sounds (e.g. wheezing).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>Visual<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Adequate visual acuity is required to manage in the University and workplace learning environments to provide safe and effective pharmacy care.<\/li>\n<li>Tasks requiring visual accuracy, reading of clinical and scientific information in a variety of formats and visual observations are fundamental to safe and effective practice.<\/li>\n<li>Examples:\n<ul>\n<li>Independently set up and use laboratory or workplace equipment that requires safe operation (e.g. hotplates, sharps).<\/li>\n<li>Make observations and accurately take measurements using instruments such as balances, point-of-care devices, and blood pressure monitors.<\/li>\n<li>Observe and detect subtle differences and changes in clarity and colours in biological, chemical, and pharmaceutical preparations and diagnostic\/monitoring devices.<\/li>\n<li>Read small font sizes (minimum 1.5 mm height) on common medicine packages (e.g. ampoules, blister packs).<\/li>\n<li>Process visual information from medication labels and packaging, identifying markings on medications, electronic displays, typed and handwritten documents, and posters.<\/li>\n<li>Create and interpret graphs, figures and tables using physical and electronic media.<\/li>\n<li>Observe visual alarms, warnings and directions in university and workplace environments.<\/li>\n<li>Observe and assess physical symptoms (e.g. swelling, rashes, colour changes) and patient appearance, behaviour, posture, movement and speech.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>Tactile<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Sufficient tactile ability is required to perform competent and safe care.<\/li>\n<li>Adequate tactile function and observations are fundamental to undertake a range of skills and assessments and provide safe and effective practice.\u00a0 Functional touch sensation, ability to apply appropriate pressure, and appropriate use of touch are required to manage in the university and workplace environments.<\/li>\n<li>Examples:\n<ul>\n<li>Detect grittiness of powders when blending creams.<\/li>\n<li>Apply appropriate pressure when mixing, tapping, or squeezing to dispense drops.<\/li>\n<li>Palpate or apply compression with appropriate pressure.<\/li>\n<li>Be comfortable touching people of any age or gender, and regardless of their sexual, cultural, religious, or socio-economic background, in a professionally appropriate manner, to observe signs and symptoms, deliver immunisation, apply wound dressings, take body measurements, measure blood pressure, and provide first aid.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n        \n                            \n                    <\/div>\n<\/div>\n pharmacist.<\/li>\n<li>Examples:\n<ul>\n<li>Manage uncertainties in scientific and professional decision making.<\/li>\n<li>Ability to evaluate and adapt to challenges in learning and clinical function.<\/li>\n<li>Ability to perform gross motor skills to function within scope of practice, this includes sufficient strength, range of motion, coordination, and independent mobility (using mobility aids if necessary) to meet practice needs in a time-constrained environment.<\/li>\n<li>Examples:\n<ul>\n<li>Maintain an upright position while using both upper limbs to perform a task.<\/li>\n<li>Manoeuvre around equipment and in confined spaces (e.g. workstations, laboratory benches, clinical areas, dispensary and store rooms).<\/li>\n<li>Safely retrieve small items from height, using a step or small ladder where appropriate.<\/li>\n<li>Safely traverse and navigate uneven surfaces, e.g. flooring joins, split-level flooring and ramps. Independently carry and manipulate equipment and materials (glassware, ingredients, paperwork) on varying surfaces and levels, to complete tasks within constrained timeframes.<\/li>\n<li>Have the physical capability to provide emergency life support.<\/li>\n<li>Have the physical dexterity to perform blood pressure monitoring and respiratory function tests.<\/li>\n<li>Travel to, and participate in, pharmacy placements and other fieldwork, and meet the physical demands of those sites.<\/li>\n<li>Practise safe handling techniques when handling pharmaceutical stock, including sterile fluids.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>Fine motor skills<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Pharmacy is a profession that requires manual dexterity and fine motor skills to perform pharmaceutical and clinical procedures and deliver safe and effective treatments.<\/li>\n<li>Fine motor manual skills and dexterity are required to manage in the university and workplace learning environments, and for safe and effective practice.<\/li>\n<li>Examples:\n<ul>\n<li>Remove lids, measure very small amounts of liquids and solids, stir and use a spatula.<\/li>\n<li>Adjust levers, knobs, and dials.<\/li>\n<li>Use computer equipment (e.g. mouse, touchscreens, pointers, keyboards).<\/li>\n<li>Open pharmaceutical packaging (e.g. bottles, boxes, blister packs).<\/li>\n<li>Demonstrate use of medication devices (e.g. eye drops) without shaking.<\/li>\n<li>Apply wound dressings.<\/li>\n<li>Safely handle needles and syringes.<\/li>\n<li>Prepare sterile products including chemotherapy, radiopharmaceuticals and biological agents using aseptic technique, reconstituting, drawing up and transferring small volumes accurately and with precision.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n        \n                            \n                    <\/div>\n<\/div>\n                    <div class=\"accordion\" aria-labelledby=\"accordion-title-Sustainable-performance\">\n            <button type=\"button\" class=\"accordion__heading\" aria-controls=\"Sustainable-performance\" aria-expanded=\"false\">\n            <div class=\"title\" id=\"accordion-title-Sustainable-performance\">Sustainable performance<\/div>\n            <div class=\"icon\"><\/div>\n        <\/button>\n        <div class=\"accordion__content\" id=\"Sustainable-performance\" aria-hidden=\"true\">\n                    <ol>\n<li>Pharmacists require functional and sustainable physical, cognitive, and psychosocial performance to complete complex and extended practice tasks safely and effectively in time-constrained environments.<\/li>\n<li>Sufficient physical and mental endurance is required to perform multiple tasks in an assigned period to provide safe and effective care.<\/li>\n<li>Examples:\n<ul>\n<li>Maintain a level of concentration to focus on an activity to completion.<\/li>\n<li>Perform repetitive tasks (e.g. typing) for periods of 2-4 hours, with appropriate breaks.<\/li>\n<li>Sustain study practices and workplace performance to ensure effective learning and application of that learning.<\/li>\n<li>Work within own limits of personal and professional competence.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n        \n                            \n                    <\/div>\n<\/div>\n                    <div class=\"accordion\" aria-labelledby=\"accordion-title-Behavioural-stability\">\n            <button type=\"button\" class=\"accordion__heading\" aria-controls=\"Behavioural-stability\" aria-expanded=\"false\">\n            <div class=\"title\" id=\"accordion-title-Behavioural-stability\">Behavioural stability<\/div>\n            <div class=\"icon\"><\/div>\n        <\/button>\n        <div class=\"accordion__content\" id=\"Behavioural-stability\" aria-hidden=\"true\">\n                    <ol>\n<li>Behavioural stability is required to function and adapt effectively and sensitively in this role.<\/li>\n<li>Pharmacists require a stable temperament and ability to conduct themselves appropriately and safely in stressful situations.
