Knowledge and compliance with Australian law (including Federal workplace harassment legislation), professional regulation requirements and standards relevant to persons working with children, young people, families\/carers, and professional others, are necessary pre-requisites to professional and field experience to reduce the risk of harm to self and<br \/>\nothers. Compliance with these professional regulations and the Australian law ensures that<br \/>\nstudents are both responsible and accountable for their practice.<\/li>\n<li>Examples\n<ul>\n<li>Complying with relevant child protection and safety legislation.<\/li>\n<li>Complying with relevant Work Health and Safety legislation.<\/li>\n<li>Adhering to requirements of informed consent, privacy, and confidentiality with<br \/>\norganisational, family and child information in academic and education settings.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n        \n                            \n                    <\/div>\n<\/div>\n                    <div class=\"accordion\" aria-labelledby=\"accordion-title-Ethical-behaviour\">\n            <button type=\"button\" class=\"accordion__heading\" aria-controls=\"Ethical-behaviour\" aria-expanded=\"false\">\n            <div class=\"title\" id=\"accordion-title-Ethical-behaviour\">Ethical behaviour<\/div>\n            <div class=\"icon\"><\/div>\n        <\/button>\n        <div class=\"accordion__content\" id=\"Ethical-behaviour\" aria-hidden=\"true\">\n                    <ol>\n<li>Students need to comply with, and are governed by, quality and professional standards,<br \/>\nwhere they are both accountable and responsible for ensuring professional ethical behaviour<br \/>\nin all contexts.<\/li>\n<li>Compliance with the codes, guidelines and policies facilitates safe, competent interactions<br \/>\nand relationships for students and\/or the people with whom they engage to ensure the<br \/>\nphysical, psychological, emotional, and spiritual wellbeing of the individual is not placed at<br \/>\nrisk. Understanding and applying key ethical and conduct principles are requirements of the<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.educationstandards.nsw.edu.au\/wps\/portal\/nesa\/home\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Australian Professional Standards for Teachers<\/a> for students in school settings. skills.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Verbal<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Effective verbal communication, in English, is the primary medium of communication in an<br \/>\neducational setting and is an essential requirement for all courses offered by School of<br \/>\nEducation.<\/li>\n<li>Graduates must meet the<a href=\"https:\/\/www.educationstandards.nsw.edu.au\/wps\/portal\/nesa\/home\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> Australian Professional Standards for Teachers<\/a> requirements.<br \/>\nStudents are required to demonstrate effective verbal communication at formal and informal<br \/>\nlevels in workshops, with peers and lecturers\/tutors in small and large groups and the ability<br \/>\nto provide clear instructions and presentation of ideas relevant to the learning context.<\/li>\n<li>Examples:\n<ul>\n<li>The capacity to use verbal language in a range of different social situations with<br \/>\nchildren and adults during Fieldwork (Professional Experience placements).<\/li>\n<li>The ability to communicate effectively with diverse linguistic and cultural groups and<br \/>\nindividuals across a range of social contexts.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>Non-verbal<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Effective non-verbal communication is fundamental to education, and needs to be respectful,<br \/>\nclear, attentive, empathetic, honest, and non-judgmental.<\/li>\n<li>Safe and effective initial teaching education requires the capacity to observe, interpret and respond appropriately to non-verbal communication, particularly in situations where their<br \/>\nstudents may not be able to verbalise distress, discomfort, or fear (for children who do not<br \/>\ntalk or use verbal language their gestures and cues are their main communication tool).<\/li>\n<li>Examples:\n<ul>\n<li>The capacity to recognise, interpret and respond appropriately to behavioural cues and gestures.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Displaying consistent and appropriate facial expressions, eye contact, being mindful<br \/>\nof space, time boundaries and body movements and gestures promotes the trust and<br \/>\nrespect necessary to develop effective professional relationships.<\/li>\n<li>Recognising non-verbal cues and responding appropriately in professional and<br \/>\nFieldwork (Professional Experience placements), workshops and seminars.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>Aural<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Competent aural communication is required to effectively access course content and being<br \/>\nresponsive to the demands of professional and Fieldwork (Professional Experience<br \/>\nplacements).<\/li>\n<li>Graduates must meet the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.educationstandards.nsw.edu.au\/wps\/portal\/nesa\/home\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Australian Professional Standards for Teachers<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.trb.wa.gov.au\/Teacher-Registration\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Teacher<br \/>\nRegistration Board Western Australia<\/a> requirements.<\/li>\n<li>Examples:\n<ul>\n<li>Use effective aural communication formally and informally during Fieldwork<br \/>\n(Professional Experience placements) in a range of different social situations with<br \/>\nchildren and adults.<\/li>\n<li>Be active and empathetic listeners in diverse social and linguistic contexts.<\/li>\n<li>Use ICTs to support aural communication in professional contexts.<\/li>\n<li>Demonstrate sufficient aural ability to gather information and accurately feedback<br \/>\nand monitor school students consistently and accurately whilst on Fieldwork<br able to demonstrate the capacity to locate appropriate and relevant<br \/>\ninformation, the ability to process information relevant to practice, and the ability to<br \/>\nintegrate, reflect on and implement theoretical knowledge in workshops, Fieldwork<br \/>\n(Professional Experience placements).<\/li>\n<li>Graduates must meet the<a href=\"https:\/\/www.educationstandards.nsw.edu.au\/wps\/portal\/nesa\/home\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> Australian Professional Standards for Teachers<\/a> requirements.<\/li>\n<li>Examples:\n<ul>\n<li>Conceptualising and use appropriate knowledge in response to academic assessment<br \/>\nitems.<\/li>\n<li>Identifying and applying knowledge of policy and procedures during professional and<br \/>\nfield experience settings.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>Literacy (language)<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Competent English language and literacy skills are essential for professional and effective<br \/>\ndelivery of teaching content.<\/li>\n<li>Graduates of accredited courses must meet the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.educationstandards.nsw.edu.au\/wps\/portal\/nesa\/home\">Australian Professional Standards for Teachers<\/a><br \/>\nrequirements. It is a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.trb.wa.gov.au\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Teacher Registration Board of Western Australia<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aitsl.edu.au\/standards\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership <\/a>requirement that educators are able to undertake many physical tasks and classroom routines. Sufficient gross motor skills are necessary to perform,<br \/>\ncoordinate and prioritise care, tasks that involve gross motor skills include sitting, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, standing, twisting, and bending. Students must be able to demonstrate and perform these tasks consistently and safely to reduce the risk of harm to themselves and others.<\/li>\n<li>Examples:\n<ul>\n<li>Setting up safe learning environments with resources and equipment.<\/li>\n<li>Safely retrieving, moving, and using large pieces of equipment.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>Fine motor skills<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Teaching is a profession that requires manual dexterity and fine motor skills.<\/li>\n<li>These requirements are necessary for course accreditation and graduate eligibility for registration. It is a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.trb.wa.gov.au\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Teacher Registration Board of Western Australia<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aitsl.edu.au\/standards\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership <\/a>requirement that educators are able to undertake many physical tasks and classroom routines.
