If you are a Study Abroad student, you must request that your home university send a copy of your transcript to <a href=\"mailto:goglobal@curtin.edu.au\" data-mce-href=\"mailto:goglobal@curtin.edu.au\">goglobal@curtin.edu.au<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3>Selecting your units at Curtin<\/h3>\n<p>As you won\u2019t be familiar with our Course Handbook, you may find searching for available units a little difficult to begin with. Remember, at Curtin we call modules and courses &#8220;units&#8221; and you can select units from the <a href=\"http:\/\/handbook.curtin.edu.au\/courseSearch.html\" data-mce-href=\"http:\/\/handbook.curtin.edu.au\/courseSearch.html\">Curtin Courses Handbook<\/a> and\/or from the range of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/study\/learning-experience\/global-study\/global-inbound\/selecting-courses\/\" data-mce-href=\"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/study\/learning-experience\/global-study\/global-inbound\/selecting-courses\/\">pre-approved units<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>When selecting your units:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Please select eight units that have been approved by your home university and submit these in order of preference on your application form. Your request may need to be sent to the faculty for approval. A Curtin unit is generally worth 25 credits. A minimum semester enrolment at Curtin University is 75 credits (generally 3 units) and a maximum enrolment is 100 credits (generally 4 units)<\/li>\n<li>Ensure the units are available at Curtin Perth and in the semester in which you are intending to study at Curtin<\/li>\n<li>Ensure you have met the equivalent of the pre-requisite\/s required for the units and if possible provide evidence of this in the form of course or module syllabi. The faculty may require this to assist with assessing your suitability to enrol into the units.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Select units with a value between 1,000-3,999 for undergraduate (eg. \u201cMINE1000\u201d is a first year unit as indicated by \u201c1\u201d in the code). Units with a value between 4,000 \u2013 4,999 are fourth year or honours units and are available subject to special permission. Units with a value between 5,000 \u2013 6,999 are postgraduate units and are available in most instances to postgraduate students only.<\/p>\n\n        \n                            \n                    <\/div>\n<\/div>\n                    <div class=\"accordion\" aria-labelledby=\"accordion-title-Step-2:-Accept-your-letter-of-offer\">\n            <button type=\"button\" class=\"accordion__heading\" aria-controls=\"Step-2:-Accept-your-letter-of-offer\" aria-expanded=\"false\">\n            <div class=\"title\" id=\"accordion-title-Step-2:-Accept-your-letter-of-offer\">Step 2: Accept your letter of offer<\/div>\n            <div class=\"icon\"><\/div>\n        <\/button>\n        <div class=\"accordion__content\" id=\"Step-2:-Accept-your-letter-of-offer\" aria-hidden=\"true\">\n                    <p>Once your application has been assessed, you will receive a Letter of Offer from Curtin. It will include your student ID along with other important information relating to your exchange or study abroad program and it is important that you read it carefully.<\/p>\n<p>To be admitted into the exchange or study abroad program, you will need to accept your Letter of Offer by signing it, pay tuition fees* as indicated on your Letter of Offer and then return it via email with the required documents to our office by the due date specified on the letter.<\/p>\n<p><em>*Exchange students are exempt from paying tuition.<\/em><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Health Insurance Requirements<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>The Department of Home Affairs (DHA) requires all international students to have <a href=\"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/study\/campus-life\/living-australia\/oshc-insurance\/\" data-mce-href=\"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/study\/campus-life\/living-australia\/oshc-insurance\/\">Overseas Health Cover (OSHC)<\/a> and it must be purchased before you are able to apply for a student visa. You must purchase OSHC from the date of your departure to the date indicated on your letter of offer. If you leave Australia prior to the expiry of your OSHC you may be eligible to claim a refund for any unused portion from your OSHC provider (this is subject to the terms and conditions of your OSHC provider).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bupa.com.au\/health-insurance\/oshc\" data-mce-href=\"https:\/\/www.bupa.com.au\/health-insurance\/oshc\">Bupa<\/a> is one of Australia\u2019s largest OSHC providers and is our preferred provider, which means we have staff on campus who can directly assist policy holders and liaise with the Bupa team. There is no fee to apply but you will be asked to pay a small initial fee within 48hrs to secure your booking. The housing team will provide you with your residential handbook and other important information.<\/p>\n<p>If you have any questions, or want to explore alternative accommodation options including shared houses, rentals, short term and homestays our dedicated <a href=\"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/study\/curtin-life\/campus-experience\/accommodation\/perth-on-campus\/perth-alternative-options-support\/\">team of accommodation experts<\/a>\u00a0can assist you.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n        \n                            \n                    <\/div>\n<\/div>\n                    <div class=\"accordion\" aria-labelledby=\"accordion-title-Step-4:-Apply-for-a-student-visa\">\n            <button type=\"button\" class=\"accordion__heading\" aria-controls=\"Step-4:-Apply-for-a-student-visa\" aria-expanded=\"false\">\n            <div class=\"title\" id=\"accordion-title-Step-4:-Apply-for-a-student-visa\">Step 4: Apply for a student visa<\/div>\n            <div class=\"icon\"><\/div>\n        <\/button>\n        <div class=\"accordion__content\" id=\"Step-4:-Apply-for-a-student-visa\" aria-hidden=\"true\">\n                    <p>Once you\u2019ve accepted your Letter of Offer, returned the required documents and purchased your OSHC policy (unless you are exempt), you will be issued a confirmation of enrolment document. You will need this document before you can apply for a student visa.<\/p>\n<p>A student visa (subclass 500) is required by all students to study in Australia.<\/p>\n<p>Study abroad and exchange students will apply for a Non-Award Subclass 500 visa. This indicates that you are studying short-term and not receiving a Curtin degree.<\/p>\n<p>You need to apply for a student visa online at the Department of Home Affairs (DHA). The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/immi.homeaffairs.gov.au\/visas\/getting-a-visa\/visa-finder\/study\">DHA website<\/a>\u00a0contains general information about student visas (subclass 500) including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Application requirements<\/li>\n<li>Supporting document requirements<\/li>\n<li>Visa processing times<\/li>\n<li>Visa costs<\/li>\n<li>OSHC requirements<\/li>\n<li>Visa conditions<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Curtin University is not able to offer visa advice, however we have provided some tips below that will guide you through the process:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>You should apply for your student visa as soon as you have received your electronic Confirmation of Enrolment (eCoE) from Curtin and gathered any required supporting documents.<\/li>\n<li>Evidence to show that you meet the\u00a0<strong>Genuine Temporary Entrant\u00a0<\/strong>requirement for a student visa will need to be submitted with your visa application to the Department of Home Affairs. This must include a written statement in your application form that states you intend to stay in Australia temporarily and\/or documentation to support your claims.<\/li>\n<li>Your CoE Code is printed in bold on the top right-hand corner of your electronic Confirmation of Enrolment (eCoE). You will be required to enter this code in your online visa application.<br \/>\nIt is a requirement of a student visa that you have an <strong>OSHC policy<\/strong> for the duration of your student visa (unless you\u2019re exempt). Your CoE may indicate \u201cNo\u201d next to \u201cProvider arranged Overseas Student Health Cover\u201d. This is not necessarily an error! If Curtin hasn\u2019t paid for the OSHC cover on your behalf, we indicate \u201cNo\u201d in this section. If Curtin has purchased OSHC cover on your behalf then this will be indicated with \u201cYes\u201d.<\/li>\n<li>The visa application will ask you for your <strong>residential or postal address in Australia.<\/strong> If you don\u2019t know this at the time you apply for your student visa, you can use Curtin University, Kent Street, Bentley WA 6102 and then update your address once you have confirmed your accommodation.<\/li>\n<li>Although you may have met Curtin University English entry requirements, the Department of Immigration and Border Protection may have additional English requirements. For more information on these requirements, please go to the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/immi.homeaffairs.gov.au\/visas\/getting-a-visa\/visa-listing\/student-500\">Department of Home Affairs (DHA) website<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>For more detailed information or general enquiries about applying for a student visa, we recommend that you contact\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/immi.homeaffairs.gov.au\/help-support\/applying-online-or-on-paper\/online\">ImmiAccount<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n        \n                            \n                    <\/div>\n<\/div>\n                    <div class=\"accordion\" aria-labelledby=\"accordion-title-Step-5:-Complete-your-enrolment-and-register-for-classes\">\n            <button type=\"button\" class=\"accordion__heading\" aria-controls=\"Step-5:-Complete-your-enrolment-and-register-for-classes\" aria-expanded=\"false\">\n            <div class=\"title\" id=\"accordion-title-Step-5:-Complete-your-enrolment-and-register-for-classes\">Step 5: Complete your enrolment and register for classes<\/div>\n            <div class=\"icon\"><\/div>\n        <\/button>\n        <div class=\"accordion__content\" id=\"Step-5:-Complete-your-enrolment-and-register-for-classes\" aria-hidden=\"true\">\n                    <p>You will be enrolled in a\u00a0<em>not for degree<\/em>\u00a0course (sometimes referred to as a\u00a0<em>non award<\/em>\u00a0course) for the duration of your studies.\u00a0 This means you won\u2019t receive a Curtin degree, but as an enrolled student you are welcome to participate in on-campus events, and utilise the university services.<\/p>\n<p>Study Abroad and Exchange students are\u00a0<strong>unable to self-enrol or withdraw from units<\/strong>.\u00a0 Once enrolments are open, our office will enrol you into your units. Most units are valued at 25 credits, however there are some 12.5 credit and 50 credit units. A full-time load at Curtin is 75 credits (usually three units) or 100 credits (usually four units) per semester.<\/p>\n<p>Please ensure your home university has approved your units and study load.<\/p>\n<p>You will need to complete an\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/inbound-student-exchange-and-study-abroad.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">enrolment form<\/a>\u00a0and return this by email to our office. Please list your preferred 75 credits (3 units) or 100 credits (4 units). Once we have enrolled you, you will be required to register for your classes and complete your timetable. We will provide you with easy-to-follow instructions on how to complete your timetable at this time. If you have a timetable clash, you will need to let us know and in most cases you will need to select an alternative unit to enrol into.<\/p>\n<p>You will have the opportunity to change your units during the first week of classes but Curtin does not permit students to commence classes after the end of the first week of semester.<\/p>\n\n        \n                            \n                    <\/div>\n<\/div>\n                    <div class=\"accordion\" aria-labelledby=\"accordion-title-Step-6:-Prepare-for-your-arrival\">\n            <button type=\"button\" class=\"accordion__heading\" aria-controls=\"Step-6:-Prepare-for-your-arrival\" aria-expanded=\"false\">\n            <div class=\"title\" id=\"accordion-title-Step-6:-Prepare-for-your-arrival\">Step 6: Prepare for your arrival<\/div>\n            <div class=\"icon\"><\/div>\n        <\/button>\n        <div class=\"accordion__content\" id=\"Step-6:-Prepare-for-your-arrival\" aria-hidden=\"true\">\n                    <p>It is a requirement of your enrolment that you read through the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/study\/campus-life\/living-australia\/\">Moving to Australia information<\/a> and arrive in Perth to participate in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/students\/essentials\/orientation\/\">Orientation (O-Week) activities<\/a>.
