{"id":747,"date":"2021-10-29T18:31:59","date_gmt":"2021-10-29T10:31:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/students\/?page_id=747"},"modified":"2026-02-25T12:22:23","modified_gmt":"2026-02-25T04:22:23","slug":"students-as-partners","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/students\/experience\/students-as-partners\/","title":{"rendered":"Students as Partners"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What is Students as Partners?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Students as Partners brings students and staff together to create opportunities to work in a more reciprocal, mutually respectful, and meaningful way through consultation, collaboration, co-design and co-delivery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Students as Partners (SaP) shifts the traditional roles of students from passive recipients of knowledge to active participants and co-creators of their learning and university experience. Embedding the Students as Partners way of working at Curtin helps to promote a more inclusive and student-centred approach by fostering collaboration between students and staff for the benefit of all involved.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Students as Partners at Curtin covers a vast array of programs, initiatives and activities within and outside of the classroom. Partnerships can involve \u2013 students with students, students with staff (academic and professional) and students with senior university administrators.<\/p>\n\n\n<mimas-block \n        block-name=\"accordion\"\n        role=\"complementary\"\n        aria-label=\"Accordion content\"\n        data-segment=\"all\">\n\n                \n\n                    <div class=\"accordion\" aria-labelledby=\"accordion-title-Who-can-be-involved?\">\n            <button type=\"button\" class=\"accordion__heading\" aria-controls=\"Who-can-be-involved?\" aria-expanded=\"false\">\n            <div class=\"title\" id=\"accordion-title-Who-can-be-involved?\">Who can be involved?<\/div>\n            <div class=\"icon\"><\/div>\n        <\/button>\n        <div class=\"accordion__content\" id=\"Who-can-be-involved?\" aria-hidden=\"true\">\n                    <p>Partnerships can include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>students with students (peer mentoring)<\/li>\n<li>students with staff, including professional staff and academics\/faculty<\/li>\n<li>students with senior university administrators<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Currently, we have a diverse range of Students as Partners initiatives that are delivered through co-curricular programs and within each faculty.<\/p>\n\n        \n                            \n                    <\/div>\n<\/div>\n                    <div class=\"accordion\" aria-labelledby=\"accordion-title-Why-is-SaP-important?\">\n            <button type=\"button\" class=\"accordion__heading\" aria-controls=\"Why-is-SaP-important?\" aria-expanded=\"false\">\n            <div class=\"title\" id=\"accordion-title-Why-is-SaP-important?\">Why is SaP important?<\/div>\n            <div class=\"icon\"><\/div>\n        <\/button>\n        <div class=\"accordion__content\" id=\"Why-is-SaP-important?\" aria-hidden=\"true\">\n                    <p>This approach is important for:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\"><strong>Enhancing student experience and engagement:<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>When students are actively involved in the process of learning and feel that they have a say in how their learning is structured, they are more likely to feel engaged and motivated.<\/p>\n<ol start=\"2\">\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\"><strong>Improving learning outcomes:<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>When students are active partners in their learning, they are more likely to take ownership of their actions and develop deeper understanding of the material.<\/p>\n<ol start=\"3\">\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\"><strong>Promoting student agency:<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Students have more opportunities to make decisions and contribute to the learning process. This can help students develop important skills like critical thinking, communication, and leadership.<\/p>\n<ol start=\"4\">\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\"><strong>Encouraging innovation:<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Students as Partners can encourage innovation and creativity in teaching and learning. Through collaboration, staff can benefit from the unique perspectives and insights that students bring to the conversation.<\/p>\n<ol start=\"5\">\n<li><strong><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">Sense of Community:<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Students as Partners fosters a sense of community and collaboration between students and staff through the Community of Practice. This can help create a more inclusive and supportive learning environment<\/p>\n\n        \n                            \n                    <\/div>\n<\/div>\n                    <div staff:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Obtain valuable insight into students lived experiences<\/li>\n<li>Collaborate and co-design with motivated and passionate students<\/li>\n<li>Learn from, and with, a
