Fieldwork risk management<\/div>\n            <div class=\"icon\"><\/div>\n        <\/button>\n        <div class=\"accordion__content\" id=\"1.-Fieldwork-risk-management\" aria-hidden=\"true\">\n                    <p>In order for a Fieldwork activity to be approved by Curtin, it must first undergo an approved Risk Assessment process.<\/p>\n<p>In most instances, your Fieldwork Coordinator will complete a Fieldwork Risk Assessment on your behalf prior to the commencement of activity.<\/p>\n<p>If your instructor has asked you to complete a Fieldwork Risk Assessment, you can access this <a href=\"https:\/\/forms.curtin.edu.au\/Produce\/wizard\/b905ffd5-f5fd-42c7-907c-441a0b7c4d7e\/\">Online Risk Assessment tool<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>If you are unsure as to whether you are required to complete a Fieldwork Risk Assessment, your first point of contact should be your Fieldwork Coordinator, to verify whether one has already been completed on your behalf.<\/p>\n<p>For assistance navigating and completing the Fieldwork Risk Assessment, email <a href=\"mailto:LITEC@curtin.edu.au\">LITEC@curtin.edu.au<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Vulnerable students<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Australian Health Principal Committee has identified people who may be a greater risk of COVID-19 infection who should take additional precautions for self care and wellbeing.<\/p>\n<p>If you believe that you are in one of these categories of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.health.gov.au\/news\/health-alerts\/novel-coronavirus-2019-ncov-health-alert\/advice-for-people-at-risk-of-coronavirus-covid-19\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">vulnerable people<\/a>, please contact your Unit Coordinator, Fieldwork Administrator, Student Wellbeing or Accessibility staff and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/8\/2021\/11\/coronavirus-covid-19-action-plan.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">develop a plan [.pdf 164kB]<\/a>\u00a0to manage any concerns.<\/p>\n\n        \n                            \n                    <\/div>\n<\/div>\n                    <div class=\"accordion\" aria-labelledby=\"accordion-title-2.-Insurance\">\n            <button type=\"button\" class=\"accordion__heading\" aria-controls=\"2.-Insurance\" aria-expanded=\"false\">\n            <div class=\"title\" id=\"accordion-title-2.-Insurance\">2. Insurance<\/div>\n            <div class=\"icon\"><\/div>\n        <\/button>\n        <div class=\"accordion__content\" id=\"2.-Insurance\" aria-hidden=\"true\">\n                    <p>The majority of fieldwork (placements) is conducted as part of a degree program (referred to a Curricular Fieldwork). Fieldwork administrators, Unit coordinators and HDR Supervisors should be able to assist with completion of the Online Fieldwork Risk Assessment, including approval of various Health and Safety risk assessments. Fieldwork approved through this process is covered by university insurance.<\/p>\n<p>Co-curricular Fieldwork is not part of your degree, it is a range of complementary skill development opportunities undertaken on a voluntary basis with community organisations. Contact the Curtin Careers Team on 9266 7802 or visit them in B102 Curtin Connect. They will facilitate your Online Fieldwork Risk Assessment and ensure you meet health and safety requirements and have appropriate insurance coverage.<\/p>\n<p>Students studying at Curtin Perth, Curtin Kalgoorlie and OUA are covered by Curtin University&#8217;s Australian insurance. To access this system, <a href=\"https:\/\/sonia.curtin.edu.au\/\">visit the SONIA website<\/a>, locate your discipline area and sign in using your Curtin credentials.<\/p>\n<p>Access to SONIA is only provided to students that are enrolled in a designated Fieldwork Unit or Course. If you cannot login to SONIA with the instructions above, then you have likely not met the enrolment criteria required. To clarify these requirements, you should contact your Fieldwork coordinator to see if you meet the access criteria.<\/p>\n<p>The functions used by each discipline area in SONIA may differ, so refer to your Fieldwork Coordinator for specific instructions on the processes involved in uploading check documentation, timesheets and other Fieldwork evidence. You can collect an <em>Application for a WWC Check<\/em>\u00a0form from your School\u2019s reception or an <a href=\"https:\/\/auspost.com.au\/locate\/?services=86\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">authorised Australian Post outlet<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Once you have filled in your personal and residential information, return the form to your Fieldwork Coordinator or School\/Area administration staff. An authorised Curtin representative will complete the Sponsor Details section before returning the form to you to lodge at an authorised Australia Post outlet.<\/p>\n<p>You may need to submit your WWC Check in <a href=\"https:\/\/sonia.curtin.edu.au\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">SONIA<\/a>, Curtin\u2019s Fieldwork Management system. You will <strong>not<\/strong> be able to commence any NDIS related work without a valid NDIS Worker Screening Check.<\/p>\n<p>To obtain a NDIS Worker Screening Check, follow the instructions below<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Apply online through the Department of Transport\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/online.transport.wa.gov.au\/tso\/selfservice\/public\/ndis_wsu_apply_entry.jsf\">DoTDirect Portal<\/a>, selecting the option for NDIS application.<\/li>\n<li>When completing this application you will need to have Curtin University&#8217;s NDIS provider number &#8211; use the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ndis.gov.au\/participants\/working-providers\/find-registered-provider\/provider-finder\">NDIS Provider Finder tool<\/a> to find this number.<\/li>\n<li>Once you have completed the online application, you must visit a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wa.gov.au\/organisation\/department-of-communities\/applying-ndis-check\">Department of Transport Driver and Vehicle Service Centre<\/a> with ID to complete the application process. Your supervisor will file reports in the Health and Safety system\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/healthandsafety\/incident-reporting\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-auth=\"NotApplicable\">RISE<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Concerns about harassment, behaviour, physical and mental health, and wellbeing should be reported to your Curtin Fieldwork supervisor, and host supervisor (if appropriate). Your supervisor will file reports via RISE.<\/p>\n<h4><b>International<\/b><\/h4>\n<p>Threats to personal safety should be reported through the International SOS app (or their reverse charges number).<\/p>\n<p>Students on DFAT funded fieldwork (e.g. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dfat.gov.au\/people-to-people\/new-colombo-plan\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">New\u00a0Colombo Plan<\/a>) have some specific additional notification responsibilities in relation to sexual exploitation, harassment and abuse of children and vulnerable people.
