You keep the same USI for life as it\u2019s your national education number.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>All Curtin students* need a USI, including international students studying onshore in Australia, students undertaking a Curtin course through Open Universities Australia (OUA), Higher Degree by Research (HDR) students and domestic students who have previously applied for or been issued a Commonwealth Higher Education Student Support Number (CHESSN).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>*Unless exempt<\/p>\n\n\n<mimas-block \n        block-name=\"accordion\"\n        role=\"complementary\"\n        aria-label=\"Accordion content\"\n        data-segment=\"all\">\n\n                \n\n                    <div class=\"accordion\" aria-labelledby=\"accordion-title-Why-you-need-a-USI\">\n            <button type=\"button\" class=\"accordion__heading\" aria-controls=\"Why-you-need-a-USI\" aria-expanded=\"false\">\n            <div class=\"title\" id=\"accordion-title-Why-you-need-a-USI\">Why you need a USI<\/div>\n            <div class=\"icon\"><\/div>\n        <\/button>\n        <div class=\"accordion__content\" id=\"Why-you-need-a-USI\" aria-hidden=\"true\">\n                    <p>The Australian Department of Education, Skills and Employment requires all students* studying in Australia to have a USI. Without one, you cannot complete your unit enrolment, receive your final qualification, or access Commonwealth financial support like HECS-HELP, FEE-HELP, SA-HELP and\/or OS-HELP.<\/p>\n<p>Fortunately, meeting the USI requirement is easy: you only have to apply once and it takes minutes to complete. If you\u2019ve studied or undertaken training previously, you might even <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usi.gov.au\/students\/find-your-usi\">have one already<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n        \n                            \n                    <\/div>\n<\/div>\n                    <div class=\"accordion\" aria-labelledby=\"accordion-title-Create-and-submit-your-USI\">\n            <button type=\"button\" class=\"accordion__heading\" aria-controls=\"Create-and-submit-your-USI\" aria-expanded=\"false\">\n            <div class=\"title\" id=\"accordion-title-Create-and-submit-your-USI\">Create and submit your USI<\/div>\n            <div class=\"icon\"><\/div>\n        <\/button>\n        <div class=\"accordion__content\" id=\"Create-and-submit-your-USI\" aria-hidden=\"true\">\n                    <p>You can find detailed instructions on how to create your USI on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usi.gov.au\/students\/get-a-usi\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Australian Government\u2019s USI website.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>New-to-course domestic students accessing commonwealth assistance for their studies will be prompted to submit their USI during the completion of their <a href=\"https:\/\/students.connect.curtin.edu.au\/app\/answers\/detail\/a_id\/727\/kw\/727\">eCAF<\/a>. All other students, including existing students who have not provided their USI to Curtin, will need to follow the steps below.<\/p>\n<p>International students studying onshore will only be able to create their USI after they have arrived in Australia and cleared customs.<\/p>\n<p>Once created, you can then submit your USI to Curtin by following the steps below:<\/p>\n<p>1.\u00a0 Login to <a href=\"http:\/\/oasis.curtin.edu.au\/\">OASIS<\/a><br \/>\n2. Click on the <strong>eStudent<\/strong> tile<br \/>\n3. Click on the <strong>My Details<\/strong> tab on the left-hand side<br \/>\n4. Click on <strong>Submit USI\/Personal Details<\/strong><br \/>\n5. Enter your USI details and click <strong>Submit<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>If you\u2019re a Curtin student studying through Open Universities Australia (OUA), you must submit your USI to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.open.edu.au\/advice\/insights\/what-is-a-usi\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">OUA instead<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n        \n                            \n                    <\/div>\n<\/div>\n                    <div class=\"accordion\" aria-labelledby=\"accordion-title-Validation-and-verification-of-your-USI\">\n            <button type=\"button\" class=\"accordion__heading\" aria-controls=\"Validation-and-verification-of-your-USI\" aria-expanded=\"false\">\n            <div class=\"title\" id=\"accordion-title-Validation-and-verification-of-your-USI\">Validation and verification of your USI<\/div>\n            <div class=\"icon\"><\/div>\n        <\/button>\n        <div class=\"accordion__content\" id=\"Validation-and-verification-of-your-USI\" aria-hidden=\"true\">\n                    <p>Submitting a USI which is invalid carries the same consequence as not submitting one at all so you need to ensure that you complete the process carefully and make any necessary amendments where needed.<\/p>\n<p>If there is an issue with validation or verification after you\u2019ve completed the process, we&#8217;ll let you know so be sure to keep an eye on your <a href=\"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/students\/essentials\/it\/studying-online\/email-occ\/\">student email account<\/a> as well as your <a href=\"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/students\/essentials\/it\/studying-online\/email-occ\/\">Official Communication Channel<\/a> in OASIS.<\/p>\n\n        \n Curtin:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Make sure your USI is submitted exactly as it has been provided to you by the USI registry<\/li>\n<li>Ensure you have not included any spaces or special characters<\/li>\n<li>Make sure the USI you are submitting is your own.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n        \n                            \n                    <\/div>\n<\/div>\n                    <div window:\n<ol start=\"1\">\n<li>Open a second tab or window<\/li>\n<li>Log in to <a style=\"font-size: 2rem\" on the eStudent button from the homepage<\/li>\n<li>View your \u201cPersonal Details\u201d under the \u201cMy Details\u201d tab.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ol start=\"3\">\n<li>Carefully crosscheck the details you have recorded against your \u201cFirst Given name\/Given name\u201d, \u201cLast\/Family Name\u201d and \u201cDate of Birth\u201d under both the USI registry and eStudent.
