{"id":8431,"date":"2021-03-08T05:48:43","date_gmt":"2021-03-07T21:48:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/news\/message-from-the-vc-creating-a-safe-work-and-study-environment\/"},"modified":"2022-12-07T13:10:27","modified_gmt":"2022-12-07T05:10:27","slug":"message-from-the-vc-creating-a-safe-work-and-study-environment","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/news\/message-from-the-vc-creating-a-safe-work-and-study-environment\/","title":{"rendered":"Message from the VC: Creating a safe work and study environment"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In light of recent reports of alleged cases of sexual assault in the workplace I would like to reaffirm Curtin\u2019s commitment to creating a safe place for everyone to work and study.<\/p>\n<p>The University has embraced a number of best practice approaches and supports important campaigns such as <a href=\"https:\/\/students.curtin.edu.au\/personal-support\/respectful-relationships\/respect-now-always\/\">Respect. Now. Always<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ourwatch.org.au\/\">Our Watch<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a016 Days in WA \u2013 Stop Violence Against Women,\u00a0 among others.<\/p>\n<p>All new students commencing at Curtin are required to complete the <a href=\"https:\/\/students.curtin.edu.au\/personal-support\/respectful-relationships\/respectful-relationships-online-training-program\/\">Respectful Relationships<\/a> online training program. If you have not yet completed the program, we strongly encourage all students at our Australian campuses to access the program through <a href=\"https:\/\/challenge.curtin.edu.au\/\">Curtin Challenge<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>We aim to create an\u00a0environment where all people, especially women,\u00a0are not\u00a0only safe but are also respected, valued and\u00a0treated as equals.<\/p>\n<p>If you are aware of, or have experienced an incident of sexual assault, harassment or violence, have seen something that shouldn\u2019t be happening, or feel unsafe, please report it to the <a href=\"https:\/\/properties.curtin.edu.au\/safety-at-curtin\/index.cfm\">Curtin Safer Community Team<\/a>.\u00a0 They are available 24\/7 and will offer support and liaise with other agencies as appropriate.
