{"id":6724,"date":"2018-09-21T02:10:44","date_gmt":"2018-09-20T18:10:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/news\/fruit-fly-quarantine-area\/"},"modified":"2022-12-07T13:08:35","modified_gmt":"2022-12-07T05:08:35","slug":"fruit-fly-quarantine-area","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/news\/fruit-fly-quarantine-area\/","title":{"rendered":"Update: Fruit Fly Quarantine Area"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>There has been no further detection of the Queensland fruit fly, but please continue to observe the Quarantine area restriction\u00a0that\u00a0includes Bentley, Como, Karawara, South Perth and Kensington areas (including the Curtin University Campus).<\/p>\n<p>Residents of these areas must not move any home-grown fruit or vegetables out of the Quarantine Area unless they have been cooked or preserved, or disposed of according to strict guidelines.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">In accordance with the Queensland fruit fly Code of Practice, which stipulates that baiting continues for three months from the date of the last detection, baiting of Como properties close to the detection points concluded on 18 August 2018.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">During the baiting program, 1182 properties (94 per cent) located within the 200m zone were contacted to seek access to their properties for weekly baiting and surveillance activities. More than 3500 baitings on 608 properties were carried out.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Public support for this eradication is vital to protect our valuable horticultural production in WA, with measures to
