{"id":5705,"date":"2016-07-06T09:00:24","date_gmt":"2016-07-06T01:00:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/news\/opportunity-knocks-budding-street-furniture-designers\/"},"modified":"2022-12-07T13:07:40","modified_gmt":"2022-12-07T05:07:40","slug":"opportunity-knocks-budding-street-furniture-designers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/news\/opportunity-knocks-budding-street-furniture-designers\/","title":{"rendered":"Opportunity knocks for budding street furniture designers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>National street furniture manufacturer <a href=\"http:\/\/www.stoddart.com.au\/townandpark_home.html\/\">Town &amp; Park<\/a> is helping\u00a0creative Curtin students to develop their concepts for next-generation street furniture into viable products.<\/p>\n<p>In June, <a href=\"http:\/\/courses.curtin.edu.au\/course_overview\/undergraduate\/3D-Design\">Product, Furniture and Jewellery Design<\/a> students Nagla\u2019A Abdullah, Jordan Stone, Justine Ng, Deveral Wijaya and Hugh Forward each won monetary prizes and support to further develop their ideas with industry experts when Town &amp; Park held their annual competition for Curtin Students.<\/p>\n<p>Course Coordinator Dr Qassim Saad described the competition as an invaluable opportunity for students.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cStudents can engage with industry through responding to a design brief from a real client. They also get to promote their creative attempts through the final presentation. These experiences are vital to emerging designers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTown &amp; Park maintain a relationship with other students too &#8211; not just the winners &#8211; and support the process of developing some ideas\u201d Saad says.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe keep expanding the opportunities to cover product design and jewellery design, with a focus on strengthening collaboration with industry and linking teaching practices with design competitions at both national and international levels.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_36275\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-36275\" style=\"width: 684px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-36275\" src=\"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/NaijlaA-Abdallah-Process-Final-Models-792x309.jpg\" alt=\"Street furniture bench design\" width=\"684\" height=\"267\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-36275\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Nagla\u2019A Abdullah won first prize of $2,000 for her design \u2018Memphis Series\u2019.
