{"id":5335,"date":"2015-08-10T03:59:00","date_gmt":"2015-08-09T19:59:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/news\/relay-for-life-curtin-a-winner\/"},"modified":"2022-12-07T13:07:20","modified_gmt":"2022-12-07T05:07:20","slug":"relay-for-life-curtin-a-winner","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/news\/relay-for-life-curtin-a-winner\/","title":{"rendered":"Relay for Life Curtin a winner"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Years of hard work have paid off for Curtin\u2019s Relay For Life committee \u2013 in more ways than one.<\/p>\n<p>The team\u2019s tireless efforts have seen the on-campus fundraiser draw bigger crowds and raise more money for vital cancer research each year, and its burgeoning success hasn\u2019t gone unnoticed.<\/p>\n<p>The Cancer Council WA recently presented Relay for Life Curtin with four awards at its Heroes of Hope Award Ceremony. Attended by more than 100 volunteers from across WA, the ceremony recognised the achievements of the state\u2019s Relay For Life volunteers.<\/p>\n<p>Relay For Life Curtin took out the <strong>Community Spirit Award<\/strong> for best local community engagement; the <strong>Team Growth Award<\/strong> for the largest increase in volunteer numbers; the <strong>Most Improved Event Award<\/strong> for the most transformed event from the previous year; and the <strong>Youth Spirit Award<\/strong>, awarded to one team member under the age of 25 who has engaged their local community to the fullest.<\/p>\n<p>Marketing Development Leader for Relay For Life Curtin and MBA student Jamie Kho received the Youth Spirit Award and says he is delighted with the team\u2019s commendations.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_31268\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-31268\" style=\"width: 280px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/11707571_856332751123551_256177244029288383_n.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-31268 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/11707571_856332751123551_256177244029288383_n-280x420.jpg\" alt=\"Jamie-Koh-Relay-For-Life\" width=\"280\" height=\"420\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-31268\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Youth Spirit Award winner Jamie Kho.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s great that the entire committee has been recognised for all the hard work and effort everyone\u2019s put in to make the event a success,\u201d Jamie says.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m very proud to be involved with a group of young people who care about fighting back against cancer.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Jamie says the team is looking forward to this year\u2019s Relay for Life Curtin event, which aims to be the \u2018best yet\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re expecting to top the number of teams participating in last year\u2019s event by almost 20.
