{"id":4713,"date":"2010-10-08T03:23:22","date_gmt":"2010-10-07T19:23:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/news\/hockeyroo-nelson-goes-for-gold\/"},"modified":"2024-10-25T08:36:19","modified_gmt":"2024-10-25T00:36:19","slug":"hockeyroo-nelson-goes-for-gold","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/news\/hockeyroo-nelson-goes-for-gold\/","title":{"rendered":"Hockeyroo Nelson goes for gold"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Occupational therapy graduate Ashleigh Nelson is one of several Curtin students and alumni going for gold at the 19<sup>th<\/sup> Commonwealth Games.<\/p>\n<p>The Wagin native will be hoping the national women\u2019s hockey team will be able to defend their gold medal won in Melbourne four years ago.<\/p>\n<p>Nelson, 23, is confident the Hockeyroos can come out on top, after a strong showing in the World Cup held in Argentina in September.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re taking a young team as we\u2019ve had a share of injuries to experienced players, but we\u2019ve had some good results against the teams we\u2019ll be playing against,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Nelson said the chance to represent Australia and the atmosphere at the athletes\u2019 village meant the Games was still a high priority for the team.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd as for the safety stuff, there\u2019s been a lot said in the media obviously and we\u2019ve been keeping an eye on it,&#8221;
