{"id":4704,"date":"2010-09-30T05:22:34","date_gmt":"2010-09-29T21:22:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/news\/leadership-academy-lauded\/"},"modified":"2022-12-07T13:06:34","modified_gmt":"2022-12-07T05:06:34","slug":"leadership-academy-lauded","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/news\/leadership-academy-lauded\/","title":{"rendered":"Leadership academy lauded"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-family: Calibri,Verdana,Helvetica,Arial\"> <\/span>Students involved in the John Curtin Leadership Academy were lauded for their contribution to the community at their recent graduation ceremony.<\/p>\n<p>Several business and community leaders attended to celebrate the success of the latest crop of graduates.<\/p>\n<p>Over the past year, the 25 JCLA graduates raised $40,000 to support local and international charities.<\/p>\n<p>One group established the Bentley Community Garden Committee alongside the City of Canning.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The community garden was part of a plan to remove the negative stigma surrounding a government housing block,&#8221; team member Lewis Cann said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We worked with the community to build their enthusiasm and involvement towards a sustainable garden.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>A second team rose $10,000 for the Royal Flying Doctor Service by organising a wine tour, WA School of Mines Games event and a movie fundraiser.<\/p>\n<p>That group was nominated for the Chevron \u2018Spirit of the West\u2019 Awards for their passion and commitment to the project.<\/p>\n<p>A third JCLA team chose local charity VOW, to help bring local and national artists together in an arts and music festival in Fremantle.<\/p>\n<p>This group rose more than $14,000 for VOW to provide education for Aboriginal children, and orphans in Cambodia.<\/p>\n<p>Others raised funds for Teen Challenge, a group that provides drug rehabilitation for teenagers.<\/p>\n<p>In excess of $14,000 was raised from a Theatre night, \u2018Kick for Drugs\u2019 Kung Fu day and a movie fundraiser.<\/p>\n<p>The money will be used to help one adolescent go through drug rehabilitation for one year.<\/p>\n<p>JCLA Coordinator Daniel Mitchell said the project participants put into practice the management, planning, networking, conflict resolution and public relations theory they learned as part of the leadership\u00a0 program.<\/p>\n<p>The program is an entrepreneurial leadership initiative that promotes among participants the vision, leadership and community involvement displayed by wartime Prime Minister, John Curtin.<\/p>\n<p><!--EndFragment--><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>John Curtin Leadership Academy participants recognised for community work.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":4275,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"_oasis_is_in_workflow":0,"_oasis_original":0,"_oasis_task_priority":"","_relevanssi_hide_post":"","_relevanssi_hide_content":"","_relevanssi_pin_for_all":"","_relevanssi_pin_keywords":"","_relevanssi_unpin_keywords":"","_relevanssi_related_keywords":"","_relevanssi_related_include_ids":"","_relevanssi_related_exclude_ids":"","_relevanssi_related_no_append":"","_relevanssi_related_not_related":"","_relevanssi_related_posts":"","_relevanssi_noindex_reason":"","wds_primary_category":0,"wds_primary_research-areas":0,"footnotes":""},"categories":[3],"tags":[],"research-areas":[],"class_list":["post-4704","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-campus-and-global-community"],"acf":{"post_options":{"":null,"additional_content":{"title":"","content":"","image":false},"related_courses":false,"credits":{"author":"","photographer":"","media":false},"display_author":true,"banner":{"image":false}}},"featured_image":false,"author_meta":{"first_name":"Curtin","last_name":"University","display_name":"Curtin University"},"publishpress_future_action":{"enabled":false,"date":"2026-04-20 17:07:43","action":"change-status","newStatus":"draft","terms":[],"taxonomy":"category","extraData":[]},"publishpress_future_workflow_manual_trigger":{"enabledWorkflows":[]},"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/4704","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/4275"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=4704"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/4704\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=4704"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=4704"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=4704"},{"taxonomy":"research-areas","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/research-areas?post=4704"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
