Curtin University of Technology will receive $20.5m in Commonwealth funding to help build a new engineering pavilion on its Bentley campus.<\/p>\n
The funding is part of the Federal Government’s investment in world class hospitals, research and innovation as announced in the 2009 Federal Budget.<\/p>\n
The announcement was part of the second round funding of $934.2m from the Education Investment Fund (EIF).<\/p>\n
Curtin Vice-Chancellor, Professor Jeanette Hacket, believes the funding highlights the University’s leadership in engineering and science.<\/p>\n
‘As the only university in WA to receive funding in the Federal Budget from the Education Investment Fund (EIF), the Government has recognised Curtin’s continued commitment to collaborative learning and improving the student experience,’ she said.<\/p>\n
Pro Vice-Chancellor for Science and Engineering, Professor Andris Stelbovics says the new engineering pavilion will bring together students from all disciplines of engineering studies.<\/p>\n
‘This complex will produce a number of unique benefits to students and serve to encourage interaction, friendship and professional networks for the future,’ he said.<\/p>\n
In his budget speech Treasurer Wayne Swan stressed the importance of the education sector to help Australia recover from the recent global financial crisis.<\/p>\n
