becomes patron of sustainable development"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Governor of Western Australia, His Excellency Dr Ken Michael AC, has agreed to become the inaugural patron of Curtin University of Technology\u2019s Australian Sustainable Development Institute (ASDI).\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>His Excellency is a former engineer with a long list of Professional achievements, including a PhD from the University of London and a former Chancellor of The University of Western Australia.\u00a0 The Governor has a keen interest in science and sustainability and has initiated a series of Science Forums at Government House exploring issues that relate to these areas.<\/p>\n<p>Curtin Vice-Chancellor, Professor Jeanette Hacket, welcomed the Governor\u2019s appointment and ongoing support.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Governor has been a strong supporter of Curtin\u2019s sustainable development initiatives and officially launched the Institute in April this year\u201d, she said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI welcome his support for the University in the promotion of innovative solutions for future sustainable development.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In launching ASDI, the Governor recognised the importance of the capabilities that it brought together.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is a very exciting initiative,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt reinforces and supports Curtin University of Technology\u2019s position as a leader in sustainable development research and education in Western Australia.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cASDI will be a great resource in that it will develop and nurture high quality research on this vital issue of sustainable development.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>ASDI incorporates 16 existing research centres and institutes based at Curtin, including the high profile Curtin University Sustainable Policy Institute (CUSP).<\/p>\n<p>Its goals include attracting and retaining internationally recognised researchers to provide strong leadership and significant contributions to research which advances sustainable development.<\/p>\n<p>The institute also facilitates the development of new research projects which support specific industry and government initiatives, increasing
