Curtin, it’s that time of year again! The New Balance 2026 University Basketball League (UBL)<\/strong> season is almost here, and we\u2019re getting ready for our biggest year yet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Whether you\u2019ve supported the Carnaby\u2019s for many seasons or are new to the UBL, this season is the perfect time to get involved, support your university, and join the action at Curtin Stadium.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Quick refresher… what is the UBL?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The New Balance University Basketball League (UBL) is a competition that provides a pathway for basketball players to study and play for their universities. The UBL is run by UniSport Australia and is inspired by college basketball in the United States.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The UBL is a national, student-only competition that showcases each university\u2019s top basketball talent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This season will feature a total of 14 teams across 6 states \u2013 2 more than last season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For its 6th year in the UBL, the Curtin Carnaby\u2019s women\u2019s team will be coached by Fiona Hannen. The men\u2019s side will be coached by David Petroziello.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \n

Curtin Men\u2019s UBL Head Coach, David Petroziello<\/h3><\/div>

\u201cI\u2019m excited about the makeup of the team because there\u2019s a nice blend of some returning guys and new incoming players like Mitch Fenton from the Redbacks and Kai Kabugua from East Perth, and a number of other guys who are coming in. The group is going to be a lot of fun to coach; I\u2019m looking forward to it.”<\/em><\/p><\/div><\/div><\/div>

Curtin Women\u2019s UBL Head Coach, Fiona Hannen<\/h3><\/div>

“Our objective is to compete to the best of our abilities as a group and as individuals, and if we do that consistently, we will put ourselves into positions to succeed. We will be a competitive and hard-nosed team that gets after it on every possession. We never run from a challenge; in fact we seek them out.<\/p>

We are a connected group that believes in each other, and we celebrate each other’s successes as our own. Our style of play is fast-paced, fluid, and aggressive. We play with great ball movement and dynamic decision-making on offense while defending with great pace and intensity.”<\/em><\/p><\/div><\/div><\/div> <\/div>\n<\/section>\n\n\n\n

A message from Coach Petroziello to Curtin students: \u201cI hope the whole Curtin community comes out and supports the squad \u2013 both the men\u2019s and the women\u2019s. The UBL is a great competition. It’s bringing something new to Australia. Having been in the college scene in America, I can tell you there\u2019s nothing like rallying behind your college team, representing every student, staff member, and community.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n
