In partnership with WAAC, the Curtin Student Guild has introduced&nbsp;<strong>Western Australia\u2019s first free HIV self\u2011testing vending machine<\/strong>, located right here on campus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This initiative marks another important step in our ongoing commitment to improving student wellbeing and ensuring that every student has access to safe, stigma\u2011free health resources.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Why this matters<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>HIV testing is one of the most effective ways to stay informed and protect your health. But for many people, traditional testing can feel intimidating, inconvenient, or uncomfortable. By bringing self\u2011testing directly to campus, we\u2019re removing barriers and making it easier for students to get the care they deserve.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The HIV self\u2011test is:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Free<\/strong>\u00a0for all students<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Fast<\/strong>\u00a0\u2014 results in just 15 minutes<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Confidential<\/strong>\u00a0\u2014 no names, no appointments<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Flexible<\/strong>\u00a0\u2014 test anywhere you feel comfortable<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>This project reflects the Guild\u2019s ongoing advocacy for better health access, safer spaces, and practical support for the Curtin community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How the self\u2011testing machine works<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Getting your free HIV self\u2011test kit is simple:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Answer a few quick questions online.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Provide a mobile number to receive your unique access code.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Visit the CONNECT vending machine on campus.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Scan the QR code or enter your code manually.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Collect your kit and test in your own time.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>The entire process takes only a few minutes, and your results are ready shortly after.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Where to find it<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The vending machine is located in\u00a0<strong>Building 106A.108 (Clubs Hub, in front of The Haven)<\/strong>. A central, accessible spot for students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/guild.curtin.edu.au\/asset\/News\/6013\/HIV-Dispenser-Campaign-.png\" alt=\"\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What is HIV?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus) is a virus that affects the immune system. Without treatment, it can weaken the body\u2019s ability to fight infections. HIV is not the same as AIDS, but if left undiagnosed and untreated, HIV can progress to AIDS over time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With modern treatment, people living with HIV can live long, healthy lives \u2014 which is why early testing and diagnosis are so important.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Why testing is important<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>HIV is most commonly transmitted during condomless sex or through blood.
