{"id":31224,"date":"2026-05-18T15:47:14","date_gmt":"2026-05-18T07:47:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/news\/?post_type=oasis-news&#038;p=31224"},"modified":"2026-05-18T15:47:17","modified_gmt":"2026-05-18T07:47:17","slug":"tackle-real-world-sustainability-challenges-in-was-mining-industry","status":"publish","type":"oasis-news","link":"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/news\/oasis-news\/tackle-real-world-sustainability-challenges-in-was-mining-industry\/","title":{"rendered":"Tackle real-world sustainability challenges in WA\u2019s mining industry"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><em>Reading time: 2 minutes<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Want to gain hands-on experience, build industry connections and help shape a more sustainable future for Western Australia?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Students from Curtin, UWA, Murdoch and ECU are invited to take part in a collaborative 1.5-day sustainability intensive focused on tackling some of the biggest challenges facing WA\u2019s mining industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Held at Curtin\u2019s Bentley Campus, the immersive event will bring together students, mentors, industry professionals and academic experts to explore how the mining sector can continue to support economic growth while creating positive social and environmental outcomes for future generations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Participants will work together to respond to the following challenge:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>How can the mining industry support sustainable development and growth in WA which provides social, economic and environmental benefits for the region and ensures that natural resources and ecosystems remain available and healthy for future generations?<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The WA mining industry contributes approximately $150 billion to the economy, while also consuming around 42 per cent of the state\u2019s water supply and 35 per cent of its diesel usage.
