{"id":30696,"date":"2026-03-16T17:27:32","date_gmt":"2026-03-16T09:27:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/news\/?post_type=oasis-news&#038;p=30696"},"modified":"2026-03-16T17:27:35","modified_gmt":"2026-03-16T09:27:35","slug":"important-curtin-overseas-travel-update-2","status":"publish","type":"oasis-news","link":"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/news\/oasis-news\/important-curtin-overseas-travel-update-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Important Curtin Overseas Travel Update"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><em>Reading time: 2 minutes.<\/em><\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>The University has carefully considered all factors and made the decision to extend the recently announced travel restrictions until <strong>Friday 27 March 2026<\/strong>.<br><br>While we recognise this may disrupt your plans, we are certain these restrictions must continue in the short-term to best protect our community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can find all of the updated details below. We will continue to monitor the situation closely and provide updates as needed. Thank you for your understanding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Curtin has temporarily added the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) Level 2 destinations (\u201cExercise a high degree of caution\u201d) to the University\u2019s non-approved travel list.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This means <strong>Curtin-related travel will not proceed to destinations listed by the Australian Government\u2019s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) as Level 2, Level 3 or Level 4.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Curtin already does not approve travel to Level 4 (\u201cDo not travel\u201d) destinations and normally only considers Level 3 (\u201cReconsider your need to travel\u201d) travel in exceptional circumstances. During this period, Level 3 exceptional approvals will also be paused.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Please note that all travel to the Middle East is categorised as either Level 3 or 4 at this stage. Travel to this region is <strong>not permitted<\/strong> until further notice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Travel to Level 1 destinations (\u201cExercise normal safety precautions\u201d) may continue as usual.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To check whether your destination is affected, please refer to the current DFAT travel advice levels on the Smartraveller website: <a href=\"https:\/\/corporatecommunications.cmail20.com\/t\/d-l-ghithyd-hydrjhkdty-y\/\">smartraveller.gov.au<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>If you are booked to travel overseas between 7 and 27 March<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Students with international travel scheduled in the coming weeks will be affected if their destination falls under <strong>DFAT Levels 2\u20134<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Curtin Travel Operations Team will contact all affected travellers directly to discuss next steps.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>If you are currently overseas<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Students currently overseas on Curtin programs may continue their activities as planned, while taking sensible precautions and following the advice of local authorities and the Australian Government.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If circumstances change or travel arrangements need to be adjusted, the Curtin Travel Operations Team will contact affected travellers directly. Any decision regarding a possible recall to Australia would be considered on a case-by-case basis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>If you have a booking or are planning overseas travel after 27 March<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Please do not change your existing bookings yet. The Curtin Travel Operations Team will contact you if your plans need to be adjusted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you have not yet booked, please be patient for now.
