These scams are designed to trick you into becoming a money mule, someone who unknowingly moves stolen funds for criminals. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Even if you didn\u2019t know the money was illegal, you could still face serious consequences including police investigations, frozen bank accounts, and long-term damage to your reputation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Our recommendations:<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Spot the red flags<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Be wary of job offers that ask you to use your personal bank account, offer high pay for little effort, come from generic emails or social media messages, or pressure you to act fast or keep it secret. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Guard your personal info<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Never share your bank details, ID, or address with unknown contacts. Scammers use this information to commit identity theft or open fake accounts. Apply only through trusted job platforms and always verify employers before sharing anything.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Report suspicious offers<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>If you spot a dodgy job offer or scam message, report it to Curtin\u2019s cyber team using the <a href=\"https:\/\/supportu.curtin.edu.au\/sp?id=get_help\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">SupportU Hub<\/a> or the \u2018Report Phishing\u2019 button in Outlook (<a href=\"https:\/\/supportu.curtin.edu.au\/sp?id=kb_article&amp;sysparm_article=KB0012514\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">how-to guide<\/a>).
