At Curtin there are many clubs and societies for students to join, from the Bubble Tea Society, to podcasting and robotics.

And for the sport lovers on campus, or anyone looking for a fun and social way to stay active, there are 19 sport clubs available to join.

So, if you’re looking for a club to join during your time at uni, here are a few reasons why you should consider a sports club.

Making new friends

Joining any club is a great way to meet new people, network with people across other degrees and of course make new friends. Sports clubs help you meet likeminded people with similar interests regularly, potentially creating lifelong friendships and bonds.

Getting active in a fun way

It’s no secret that exercise is great for wellbeing. It improves blood flow to the brain, improving memory, and releases the endorphins to improve your mood. Being a part of a club means regular training and competitions/games, creating lots of opportunities to keep your body and mind fit.

Balance and routine

Taking breaks from your studies by getting active is a great way to recharge, destress and create a routine. Especially when you get to do something you love. Being part of a team sport requires weekly training sessions, so you’ll have to integrate this into your routine. Having a schedule that includes both your club and study commitments may help you to avoid procrastination and keep to deadlines.

Skill building

Being a part of a sports club allows you to build your skills across different areas. Of course, this includes your skills on the field or court, but also off it.

For sports like football or hockey, you’ll need to be working closely with your team and may even need to take on a leadership role. Or you may volunteer yourself for a club position such as treasurer, social media manager or admin. This experience is valuable on your resume once you graduate.

Develop new interests.

There are so many unique sports clubs to join at Curtin. So, if you’re not feeling netball or rugby, why not try out karate or futsal instead? The wide range of options for both team and individual sport means you’ll be sure to find one you love (or maybe even more).

Represent Curtin

There is no better feeling than sharing your wins with the team or getting to represent your group against others from near and far. Joining a sports club means you may get to represent Curtin at events, such as Uni Nationals, which are held all over the country.

This article was written by Digital & social media and Journalism student, Hayley Dodds

Whether you are a beginner or elite athlete, there is a sports club for you.| Reading time: 2 mins

[145
post-29815","oasis-news","type-oasis-news","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","oasis-categories-sport-recreation
":null
"publishpress_future_workflow_manual_trigger":
["GET
