One of the best parts of that membership? You get access to Student Assist, a free, confidential service that\u2019s completely independent from the University and run by your peers in the Guild.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Why that independence matters<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Since Student Assist is run by the Guild, it\u2019s not technically part of University. That means when you ask for help, whether it\u2019s about assessments, financial strain or personal troubles, you\u2019re talking to someone neutral and completely on your side.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What can they help with?<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Student Assist covers a wide range of areas, so you don\u2019t need to go hunting for help when things get tough:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Academic issues<\/strong>: They can explain University rules, your rights, and how to deal with things like enrolment decisions, progress reviews, assessment extensions, misconduct concerns, unit withdrawal and appeals.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Emergency relief &amp; financial support<\/strong>: If money\u2019s tight, they can help with budgeting advice and reach out to external agencies like Centrelink, electricity providers, or even your landlord on your behalf. There\u2019s also the Guild Student Pantry, which offers free staples like rice, pasta, canned tuna, and cereal to students facing genuine need \u2014 no judgment, just practical help (limited visits per semester, booking required).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Loan Laptop Program<\/strong>: If you\u2019re unexpectedly without access to a computer, you can borrow a laptop for up to 14 days. This is strictly for emergencies and only at the Bentley campus.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Personal, legal, or wellbeing support<\/strong>: Whether you&#8217;re dealing with disciplinary issues, personal crises, or unclear University policies, Student Assist can listen, guide and refer you to the right resources.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>There\u2019s also a collection of Quick Assist videos that walk through common topics \u2014 like plagiarism, appealing academic decisions, budgeting tips or applying for a concession SmartRider \u2014 with concise, practical guidance. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/playlist?list=PLP91FfzdaLloVtD2HbYVMaY63zZLVQm2-\">View them on YouTube.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>How to get in touch<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Getting help is simple. You can email them via student.assist@guild.curtin.edu.au, call (08) 9266 2900 (free-call 1800 063 865), or visit them in person at the Guild Building (106F) on the Bentley campus, Monday to Friday, 9am \u2013 4pm (AWST). Just be ready to include your name, student number, course details and a quick description of your issue. You\u2019ll likely need to book appointments or requests depending on what you need support with.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Why it matters<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Between deadlines, forms, financial pressure or even just feeling lost, University can feel overwhelming. Student Assist is here to give you real, practical support, tailored to your situation.
