{"id":27580,"date":"2025-03-10T11:46:47","date_gmt":"2025-03-10T03:46:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/news\/?post_type=oasis-news&#038;p=27580"},"modified":"2025-03-10T11:46:51","modified_gmt":"2025-03-10T03:46:51","slug":"important-changes-to-third-party-email-applications","status":"publish","type":"oasis-news","link":"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/news\/oasis-news\/important-changes-to-third-party-email-applications\/","title":{"rendered":"Important changes to third-party email applications"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><em>Reading time: 1 minute<\/em><\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>As part of Curtin&#8217;s ongoing commitment to strengthening cyber security and reducing phishing emails, we are implementing some important changes to <strong>third-party applications<\/strong> that send emails on behalf of Curtin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These updates will ensure that only authorised systems can send emails on Curtin\u2019s behalf, reducing the risk of phishing attacks.<\/p>\n\n\n<section\n                class=\"block accordions\" role=\"complementary\"\n        aria-label=\"Accordion\"\n        data-segment=\"all\">\n\n        \n\n    <div class=\"accordions__container\">\n                    <div class=\"accordion\">\n            <button type=\"button\" class=\"accordion__heading accordion__toggle\" aria-controls=\"whats-changing\" aria-expanded=\"false\">What&#8217;s changing?<span class=\"ico ico-chevron-fat ico--deep-blue\"><svg xmlns=\"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/2000\/svg\" viewBox=\"0 0 32 32\"><path d=\"M10.91 30.41l-2.82-2.82L19.67 16 8.09 4.41l2.82-2.82L25.33 16 10.91 30.41z\"\/><\/svg><\/span><\/button>\n        <div class=\"accordion__content content\" id=\"whats-changing\" aria-hidden=\"true\">\n                    <p><!-- wp:paragraph -->A new email security control called <a href=\"https:\/\/dmarc.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>DMARC<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0(Domain-Based Message Authentication, Reporting and Conformance) will be enforced for all third-party applications that send emails on behalf of Curtin.<\/p>\n<p>These updates <strong>do not <\/strong>affect standard Curtin student email accounts and emails sent using Microsoft Outlook or similar email clients. The <strong>changes apply only to third-party applications<\/strong> such as marketing platforms or booking services like Campaign Monitor or Eventbrite.<\/p>\n<p>In some cases, email forwarding rules may not work for emails received from third-party platforms sent on behalf of Curtin. When this happens, the sender will receive a failure notification, but the intended recipient who set up the forwarding rule will not be notified.<\/p>\n\n            <\/div>\n<\/div> action is required if you send emails via Outlook or a similar email client.<\/strong>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><!-- wp:paragraph -->If you use a third-party email provider or software, you may wish to verify emails are being delivered correctly after the updates have been applied.<\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><!-- wp:list {\"ordered\":true} --><\/p>\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><!-- wp:list-item --><\/p>\n<li>Send an email using the third-party provider\/software.<\/li>\n<li>Open your email client and navigate to the <strong style=\"font-size: 2rem\">sent Items<\/strong><span style=\"font-size: 2rem\"> folder.<\/span><\/li>\n<li>If the email appears in the sent items folder, this confirms it has been successfully sent.\u00a0 No further action is required.<\/li>\n<li>If the email <strong style=\"font-size: 2rem\">does not<\/strong><span style=\"font-size: 2rem\"> appear in the sent items folder, confirm the email was correctly composed, sent from the intended account and no error messages or delivery failure notifications were received.<\/span><\/li>\n<li>If the issue persists or you receive a reject notification citing DMARC, contact the <a style=\"font-size: 2rem\" href=\"mailto:csip@curtin.edu.au?subject=Third-Party%20Email%20Applications\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Cyber Security Improvement Plan team<\/a><span style=\"font-size: 2rem\">\u00a0for assistance.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n            <\/div>\n<\/div>            <\/div>\n\n<\/section>\n\n\n\n<p>These updates will begin taking effect from <strong>Wednesday 26 March<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you have any questions or need further assistance, please
