Curtin\u2019s 3 Checks for Safety is an initiative to identify the risks to yourself, your fellow students, your teachers, equipment, property, or environment and put effective controls in place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Before commencing a task, it is important to stop and take five minutes to assess the hazards, risks, and potential harm. By doing this, you can identify risks before they become an incident or hazard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The 3 Checks for Safety should be undertaken before starting a task<\/strong> OR during a task where<\/strong> conditions change<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The process involves conducting a real-time mental risk assessment to assess if there is a change in location, equipment, work methods and other relevant factors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The 3 Checks for Safety involves three questions:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. Do I know how to do the job safely?<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. Do I have the right equipment?<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  3. Is my work area safe?<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    If you answer no to any of the above questions, STOP the job<\/strong> and reassess.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    We encourage you to speak with your supervisor to come up with a solution together to complete the task safely if you answer no to any of the questions above.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
